Im looking for a cheap target rifle that can kill more than a crow. anyone know which rifle i should get? I need the ammo to be cheap too. gonna use it for target practise and for killing deer ect..

A M14/M305 would probably do nicely, it's not a target rifle but would do just fine for practising and the 308 Win will definitely kill a dear and cheap ammo is readily available.

I always wanted an SKS, would be very cheap to shoot. If you reload you should take a look at the pistol round lever guns. The 45 LC, the 357 or 44 magnums, load them down for target. The 30-30 would be fine too loaded with lead bullets and cowboy loads.

try 6mm ( .243)
flat, fast and good enough for deer, maybe even a blackie.
I reload for the one we have, and its a tack driver. The cost varies with the price of the bullet you want to use though
$25-$45 bucks per hundred.

If you stay with factory ammo for a .243, you can buy factory 100gr for about $16 a box, and very accurate.

SKS or SKS-D 7.62x39mm. Cheap Gun, cheap Ammo, and power to boot.

somehow I dont think an sks is much of a target rifle , shooting 1 12 guage shell of buckshot will give you the same pattern as 9 sks rounds

a 25-06 is a great target/hunting rifle and like the guys said 243/6mm there all great cheaper shooters

I have never found 308, 243, or 25-06 to be as cheap as 7.62x39mm ammo (SKS).

The SKS isn't exactly a snipe firearm. :) Supposedly the Norinco bolt action rifle in 7.62x39mm is pretty good after a little tweaking.

Yup, .308 is dirt cheap. Great little round, little recoil, generally very accurate, lots of power for big game.

The Norinco M14 is supposed to be a good shooter and would be fun to boot. I'd definately take it over an SKS of any sort.

Or you could buy and actual hunting rifle which should be plenty accurate for target shooting, some of them can be found pretty cheap.
