In the market for a cheap revolver. I know tradeex had a bunch of K38s in a few months ago, and that would've been sweet, had I been able to snag one at the time. Anybody have any ideas on something of that ilk? Barring anything else, I guess I'll be picking up a Blackhawk in .357.

You say this like you're almost disappointed....don't worry you wouldn't be settling if thats what you're worried about. Ruger makes good revolvers!
While you're there...get one that comes with an extra 9mm cylinder.

If you're keen on a single action and want to save a little over the cost of the Ruger look at the Pietta options from Marstar. I've been using a pair for cowboy shooting and lots of added plinking/target shooting for 4 years now and the guns are only getting better.

If you're keen on a DA revolver stick with Ruger or S&W. Or if you should trip over a cheap Colt in decent shape I "guess" that's OK too.... :D

Ditto on what others here have said. If buying a Ruger Blackhawk go for one with the 9mm or 45 acp cylinder for cheaper ammo. I've got a Ruger Blackhawk .44 magnum and they are a solid gun. I would recommend watching for a Smith and Wesson model 10 .38 Special or even a Military and Police in .38 S&W as these are liable to be your most inexpensive options. I almost pulled the trigger on one of the Trade Ex K38's as well. I've got a lot of trigger time on Smith and Wesson Revolvers and miss the old girls.

Keep in mind too that if the gun does not have a nice trigger and generally handle well then it'll quickly turn into a money waster of a safe queen. It's MUCH better to pay more and use the item a lot because it's a joy to use than to buy cheap and hate what you bought.

So suck it up and pay for a S&W then install a Wolff spring kit and smile a lot at how smart a shopper you are.

Charter Arms? Read the reviews and you won't buy one. They are budget guns intended to be carried a lot and used little.

You can get some decent deals on older .38 Special revolvers. The older S&W revolvers are great guns if they are good. It is money well spent to get a .38 Special that also shoots .357 Mag. Than the lighter duty S&Ws are barely able to handle full magnum loads. So you get what you pay for. Long story short get a good quality revolver that shoots .38/.357Mag if that is what your after. The 587/687 S&W or the GP100 Ruger are good revolvers. The S/A Ruger Blackhawks are also great revolvers. Ruger makes a convertable that also shoots 9mm so that is cool.
