cheaper rifle scope $150 tops which one?

The new Simmons scopes are reputedly awesome. Simmons changed the way the erector assembly works, making the scopes far more durable + they have fully multicoated optics. Amazing value for under $150.

I have a Scope Chief 2-8 on my 243 lever and it has never let me down.... it is older than most guys on this site. You can buy good used scopes for 150 bucks... and there is nothing wrong with the inexpensive Bushnells.

I'll say the Bushnell Trophy series is also worth a look. Have had a few on rifles over the years, too. Also a good scope for the money... ;) :D

Let me tell you a yarn about 3, 4-12x Banners. I own 2 of them and a buddy owns the third.
One of mine is on my 10-22, and the second is on my 17HMR, no problems with either, no shifting in POI etc. The third is on a buddies 223 Savage, just looked at the groups he shot at 100yds, 3 groups, one at 4x one at 7x and one at 12x, it resulted in a 3/4" 9 shot group. And Walmart sells them in Drayton Valley for $120.00 certainly worth a try.

Kollmorgen scopes are top quality scopes and they can be had for peanuts, They are real precision jobs and have optics that can not be bettered.

This one is on ebay right now with eight hours to go at $35. They are made by the Kollmorgen Optical company that made periscopes for submarines. The only thing that you should be aware of is that the tube is 26mm. I use 30mm rings with a shim.

Thanks for reading all of my previous posts, Tod.

sometimes I don't ready any of the posts other than the topic question. I'd rather be out hunting coyotes than pick through each driveling post. :) I stand by my post, save up for a better scope or sell some crap that collects dust and buy a 3200. Another favorite in that price range is the newer Weaver scopes.

I have a couple of the Bushnell Legend scopes and they are damm fine glass for the money. These run about $150-$200, depending on your location and the exact model you want. I have no complaints about shifting POI or clarity issues either. I will be buying more of these scopes in the future for sure. I think the more expensive glass is great if you can afford it, but very good glass is available in the price range you stated.

Go with the dusk till dawn 4-12, I have one it works great, to date (20 + years) my bushnel scopes have never cost me a shot. This years buck was shot in the first minutes of shooting light no problem I could barley see the deer without optics.

Although a friend of mine has I have never personally noticed a POI shift.

Big dollar scopes have ther place, big recoiling guns, target rifles, PD guns or a gun you would take to Africa or such.

I also have a Bushnell Legend on a 22-250 I think it is 5-15 x40AO it is good for a low recoiling rifle.

I would STRONGLY recomend staying away from the new Bushnell Trophys made in the Phillipines. I have 2 and they are crap crap crap. The glass is almost un-useable. Any light from behind causes a lot of reflection off the oblective piece. It is the worst piece of glass I have ever seen on a scope, including $40 Tasco's. One of them had a point of impact change of 3" at 100 yards when you twisted the power adjustment up and down. YOu can watch the cross hairs jump. That is how it came new in the box!! I have not botherd to send it back.

The old Trophys were actualy not bad. New ones = waste of money junk.

i was told that the 6-18, 50 mm dusk to dawn wouldn't take heavy recoil. They were RIGHT. I have one on my 30-06 and after 10-11 shots it goes for a crap. They said it was questionable on a 30-06 but a mag would kill it.
I am going to put it on a smaller cal. gun and get a "better" scope for the old .06.

A cheaper scope is NOT better than nothing when you are hunting. You owe it to the critter to make sure it will kill, not mame!
You are doing the right thing by asking others about their experience, now just listen to them and you won't have to learn the hard way, and waste your money.

I put an old cheapy scope on my 10-22 and it actually failed within half a season from the "tremendous" slap-bang forces produced by a rimfire semi.

I'm a big fan of the Tasco 6-24x42 mil-dot scope when it comes to budget scopes.
