Cheaper semi with bolt hold on last round?

I want to pick up a semi 22lr rifle for plinking at the range and such. I don't want to break the bank, but I want something with a bolt hold open on the last round. So which of the cheaper semis have that feature? Which ones with that feature are the most reliable, or most accurate, or the best combo of both?

Marlin 60, Marlin 795, Remington 597 all have last shot bolt hold open.

In my experience of having owned all three, I found that --

* all are entertainingly accurate, and

* the Marlins are more reliable than the Remington.

I still own the Marlins. Sold the Remington but must admit that I am tempted to try one again.

Obviously expensive as hell but just for people interested in a more expensive rimfire rifle the Walther G36 has a last round bolt hold open, but no external bolt release.
 
^I agree with MDF. I don't personally care for Remington 597s...but it has more to do with the aesthetics. lol

The answer to the question~Marlin 795 if you want a box mag, Marlin 60 if you want a tube mag. Both very affordable, proper-sized charging handle, last-shot bolt hold open, AND an action release lever. =You don't have to pull back the charging handle on a full mag to chamber the first round. Accuracy is very good, 10 round factory mags reliable/robust, etc. Iron sights tend to be a bit wonky on these guns, but I had always planned to scope mine. All factory semis have heavy-ish triggers...but for the Marlin, look up MCARBO and track down one of their Marlin 795 kits. Affordable, easy to install, and great guys to deal with. Really, the only upgrade I think the gun needs.

These are optional nice-to-haves -- they are not required to fix design flaws and poor materials as are, say, 10/22 aftermarket parts. These are nice upgrades to have if you decide that your Marlins are keepers.

Or I can get a marlin, which will be cheaper, more reliable, more accurate, have legal 25rd mags and has bolt hold open out of the box... Man that's a hard choice... Lmfao

Only good thing about a 10-22 is the fact that you can replace all the crappy factory parts with aftermarket stuff... Out of the box they leave a lot to be desired.

a GSG-15? ISSC .22? How cheap is 'cheap' for you?

More than 10rd mags, holds bolt open... NR :)

I love mine, really fun rifle. Bolt holds open at the end when the fun is over waiting for more pellets. I don't understand the Tan rifle though, why is it not all Tan? half and half for cost savings seems like a shortcut. I would have liked a complete tan rifle but went with all black instead. I must admit the trigger feels somewhat like a toy.

Promags seem like the way to go. Having said that, I've shot with the Champion and had a couple of jams initially but no issues after that. Hard mag to find in Canada.
If I were looking for a cheap accurate semi, I think it's hard to beat the 795.
 
I have promag 25rd mags for my Marlin 70 and my buddy has them from his Marlin 795. They jam quite a bit in both guns with a wide variety of ammo.

I'll give another vote for the Marlin. Accurate,reliable and cheap. My only complaint with my 60 was the trigger, but after putting in mcarbos target trigger and spring kit it's a tack driver.
