Cheapest .30 caliber or bigger rifle cartridge?

Ontario there is no caliber restrictions. you can shoot small game (except turkey) with any rifle. provided you have a tag for an open season big game.

Nope, Western Ontario still has restrictions and have had for over 30 years. Hence the popularity of the 6.5x55,.257 Weatherby Magnum and 25-06

Ya, like the majority of the province.

The .270 law is the most mis-understood law in hunting, im sure of it. A small portion of the province in terms of area (southern Ontario) is affected by it, while the remaining 95% of the province can use whatever the heck we want.

I cant count the amount of times ive argued on this and other boards about what rifles I can hunt deer with on my own property. Sheesh, read the regs, and stop trying to tell me what I can do(mlehtovaara, this isnt aimed at you, just ranting)
 
Well I gonna' go with the orig. intent of this post, as i don't care about the silly rules they have in Ontario......My vote for the cheapest round to use would be any of the larger calibers that work just as well or better with cast bullets. Casting your own and reloading them would def. be the cheapest, and the 30/30, .35 rem., .38/55, .44 Mag., .444 Marlin and .45/70 fill the bill. They are all good big game rounds that can be reloaded with cast to improve the round on big game over factory loads and cost less then half as much!!
 
Who cares about the cost of ammo? That's the worst thing ever. Thousands of guys will go out every year and drop a thousand bucks on a new rifle and scope. They'll buy the best mounts they can afford, a new sling and a case. Then they'll spend a couple hudred bucks on lost wages, fuel, food and whatever other neccesities for their hunt but they'll want the cheapest ammo available. :rolleyes:

Pick the rifle you like best and go with it.
 
.30-30 in a used lever action Marlin or Winchester is a cost affective way to go. Nice, light, compact, well balanced, quick and extremely reliable rifles for deer hunting.

Well thats nice for them. Some of us dont do that, and we buy rifles which we can afford to shoot a lot.
 
I guess the anwser to this question is the SKS.

Cheap Guns, lots of cheap surplus ammo...buy a couple boxes of soft points for Deer.

You wouldnt' see me hunting with one but its what comes to mind as far as cheap all around.
