Cheapest 375 H&H Ammo

Hi All,

I'm looking to stock up on $375 H&H. So far I the most affordable I've found is $63 for Federal Power Shock from Reliable and the about the same for Hornady from Tradex. Anybody know of a better deal (preferable a sponsor)?

Good question. I am planning to do so by the end of this year or early next year. My budget for toys is a bit tapped out at the moment. Plus I'm still not sure what kind of setup to get. A progressive press would probably make sense eventually since I also shoot 9 mm and 223. For now I'd like to get 5-6 boxes of different ammo just to see what works best with my rifle.
 
I just bought a 375 Ruger... ammo selection is basically non-existent but I managed to find 5 boxes of Hornady 270sp which before taxes and shipping cost $375.

For $400... I can buy:

100 270gr Matrix bullets ($99)
2lbs of H4350 or Hybrid 100 ($80)
1 box of large Magnum primers ($6)
Lee Classic Loader Kit ($150)
RCBS Full Length Die Set ($65)

And I'll have .75lbs of powder left over! The next batch of 100 rounds would only cost an extra $145 before shipping/tax! Extra brass still isn't cheap, but 100 cases should keep me going for a while.
 
I think Federal Blue box is the cheapest I've ever seen. Definitely look into reloading when you can afford it. I reload 458 win mag cheaper than what most people pay for middle of the road 308 and 45-70 cheaper than bulk 223.

Do not buy a progressive for your first press or your foray into reloading will be a frustrating one. Buy a single stage, learn to reload. Then buy a progressive later for only your high volume cartridges.
 
Point taken guys. My plan was to hold off reloading for a bit but from all your advice it makes sense to start now. I did some quick research and RCBS seems to be getting some good reviews and they have a $50 rebate off of when you spend over $300. I was looking at their deluxe single stage kit . Has anyone used it? Is there anything better? I'll do some more digging but it never hurts to get another opinion.

The RCBS or Lee single stage kits are all you will need... and a Hornady digital scale and Mastercraft digital caliper... for the price of 5-6 boxes of H&H ammo, you will be all set-up.

You do realize that Reliable is a sponsor here, correct?
Just wanted to make sure of the obvious.
Was at WSS in Langley yesterday looking for a fishing pole and found what I was looking for but didnt want to bring it home on the motorcycle.
I didnt feel it was safe riding with a carbon hybrid composite pole acting as a lightning rod if you get my drift.
For chits and giggles went over to look at brass availabilty and they had some Hornady Prem stuff and at $109.00 for 300 H&K that was for 50 rounds.
They did have some 223 WSM and some 300 Savage and a bag of 22-250 savage iirc too.
Buy several boxes of the blue stuff save your gas money and get the dies and other components you will eventually be further ahead.
Just my .05 of advice this morning.

Once you get on to it you'll realize that it's more than just saving money. It makes you become more involved in the hobby of shooting and hunting. In over 35 years of hunting I've never, ever carried factory ammunition. The factory stuff today is much better than the old days mind you, but there's something special about knowing the bullet I just dug out of a bull elk was handloaded by me. Just my opinion.

Thanks, I know they're a sponsor (as is tradex). There was a price difference on Hornady ammo between Tradex and Reliable of about $15 so I was wondering if there were other better deals. With all the advice I got I'll buy a box of the blue at Reliable for sighting in and get started on buying my reloading setup. I just have to figure out what to buy. There's so many options. It seems a bit daunting at first. I do appreciate everyone's advice. It's the main reason why I joined the forum.

Agreed. I' m a pencil pusher by trade so any tinkering I get to do is greatly appreciated.

Yowza... I can't justify factory ammo in anything bigger than a 30-06, it just gets too pricy. Invest a few hundred bucks in a single stage press kit and get some components, it is well worth your time.
