I would like to have a 9mm 1911 and was thinking of getting an Norinco NP-29
but like the standard GI look. The Norinco would need new grips and a hammer. The other option is the rock island armory 9mm 1911 for approx. $550.00. I am not interested in higher end 1911 because I do not want to spend more than 550 max. Which would be a better route to take.

Sometimes cheap is expensive.

Sometimes you have to spend a little more than you'd like - to buy right, buy once - to save money in the long run.

I think the Spartan is the best deal, it fitted with STI parts and target sight. STI also offer best waranty service in Canada. Norinco NP-29 is good but need some refinement by yourself. I happen got some luck to score a nice one from Ellwood Epps.

I tried para in 9mm once ... didnt like it but I had over 2000K rounds of .45 under my belt with the 1911 platform. I guess I didnt like the feel of the 9mm in a 1911
9mm will always be BHP for me

If you want a 1911 in 9mm . Get a Norinco if you ever change your mind you will sale on EE in less than 48H for the same price you paid

Norinco if you are on a budget. Like Volks said: good resale value.
I would buy it from Marstar's because of price and warranty.

I own an NP-29 and have had it for close to 15 years and have been trying to find it a twin ever since. I guess is really is made of unobtanium.
I have never had a failure of any kind on that pistol and all I've ever done to it besides cleaning after shooting was to take a small file and smooth out some sharp edges and I'm still using the factory mags without problem.
I think that any brand pistol you get in a 1911 will work reliably. Just look for one that is built the way you want it to be.
If your not stuck on a 1911 there are plenty of great deals on used pistols out there, I just picked up a Gen3 Glock 21 with 4 mags for $500 and I saw an M&P 45 with 4 mags on the EE here fro $500 a week or two ago.

Good luck

I think that's the nicest hi-power I've seen.

Taurus finally came out with a 9mm 1911. IMO it would be a best deal on a 9mm 1911 other than Norinco.
I keep trying to get 'em and Taurus keeps backordering them.

Comparing the Taurus 1911s I have in stock now, you'll get decent gadgetry (like the tacti-cool rail) but there is no comparing them with the barrel - slide - frame fit on a spartan; the Taurus 1911s actually rattle. (and of course, so do Norcs.)

It comes down to what's more imporant to the customer; bling or precision.

I was going to suggest that if you wanted the pure GI look that the RIA 9's from Kodiak are the way to go. It costs a little more than a Norc but A) you can get them and B) you won't have to buy and fit the GI issue hammer and beavertail safety. So all in all the RIA becomes equivalently priced.

But then I go to check and see that KO doesn't have any 9's listed in his current inventory.

I still say that if you want a GI look pistol that you should contact them about when he's getting more in. Otherwise even if you get a cheaper Norinco the cost for the parts and fitting them (they are not just "drop ins" except if you're really lucky) will raise the cost of the Norc to as much or more than the RIA.

For what you are looking for, RIA is the undisputed middleweight champion of the world. RIA 1911's are the kings of the budget 1911s. A bit more than a Norinco, but a bit better gun as well. To get a better 9mm 1911 you would have to jump up to the $800 mark and get an STI Spartan as noted above.

RIAs are stocked by Arms East, Frontier Firearms and Kodiak Outpost. But only Frontier currently shows a 9mm in stock.

Speaking form experience, buy the RIA and don't look back. You will not be disappointed. There is not a better 1911 out there in that price range.

We will be looking to receive more RIA 9mm early in January. The supplier is in Canada so we can usually receive them quickly.
Do you guys want the standard 9mm or the tactical?
