I'm new to shooting and would like to build a shotgun for fun. The end product I would like to end up with is a Remington 870 style shotgun with a 12.5" barrel, ghost ring sights, top rail for optics, and Surefire light foreend. I already have the foreend.

I've seen on this youtube video from Dec 2010 that when purchased from Canada Ammo ($309), the Dominion Arms 12.5" with Ghost Rings comes with a top rail (not installed). Unfortunately Canada Ammo is out of stock.

Does anyone know if all Canada Ammo DA 12.5" shotguns come with the top rail, and are predrilled to accept it?

Wanstall's has this Norinco 12.5" with bead sight in stock for $339 (they listed the Ghost Ring too, but removed it after I emailed them). I asked them if it includes the top rail for optics and they said no, they also said it would require drilling and tapping if I wanted to add one.

Another option is to get the Remington 870 Express Tactical for $500. It comes drilled and tapped with a ghost ring/optics rail combo. I would then have to buy the 12.5" barrel for $150, and buy the parts to have the 2 shot magazine tube extension removed.

Does anyone know what the best option is? Thank you in advance for your help.

I think Canada Ammo himself should answer this question. His website is littered with ETA dates, so it looks like there will be more stock coming soon from DA.

You can find him in the dealer's forum, or just give them a call direct.

The 12.5" DA comes up on the EE forum on a monthly if not weekly basis. You shouldn't have any problem finding one there, that's what I'd do (and that's how I got my first two Grizzlies!)

One shot tactical's site has the 12.5 Grizzlies in wood for $299

SFRC has the 14" Norinco Hp9s for $289

Whoops, see the 12.5" with ghost rings for $309? Also, SFRC has been great to deal with IMO.

Once of those should make you happy.

Also, there are about 4 870 builds in the first few pages of the EE. Maybe buy someone else's project and save a few bucks?
