I am am going to be taking my RPAL course shortly and am looking to add a pistol or 2 to my collection of rifles. I'm just wondering what pistol round is the cheapest to shoot? Are there any specific rounds that surplus ammo can be easily bought? I reload, so is there a round that generally has cheaper components? I'm obviously referring to centrefire pistol cartridges, not 22 LR. A .22 will be the first on the lost. I tend to see that 9mm and 45 acp seem to be the most commonly shot rounds, is this correct?

9mm is by far the cheapest, both for factory ammo and reloading. If you buy factory reloads such as Wolf, or get it on sale, you can often come close to getting factory ammo for reload cost.

9mm, cheapest around on reload (even more if you cast), from surplus ammos and you'll always found a good deal somewhere on it

You could get a 9mm from a manufacturer that also makes a .22 conversion kit. A Sig P226 for example.

Shoot some 9mm, drop the mag, pop off the 9mm slide/barrel assembly, slap one the .22 slide/barrel assembly, insert the .22 magazine and your good to go.

Tt-33.... Can purchase for less then $200 new and surplus 7.62x25 rounds can be as low as $0.12/rnd. But of course anything shooting 22lr has the cheapest ammo
