I have ans SKS and a CZ858 coming this week and want to buy some softpoint ammo so I can shoot them at TSE to make sure they work before I shoot outside with milsurp stuff in the summer. Any idea where the cheapest place to buy some is?

Probably Canadian Tire. I don't know which Calgary store stocks ammunition, but have seen it posted several times. The south Red Deer store sells it for $16.99/20.

The canadian tire on mcleod south had in about a dozen boxes or so of sp rounds in 7.62x39 as of thursday. head to the back of the store, bottom of the third case from the left.

Sorry I forget the price though.

I have never scene a canadian tire store that carries 7.62x39 here in southern Ontario. I always have to go to a real gun shop. Not a big deal since I drive by one on the way to the range, and on the way to work.

If it's Sellier & Bellot ammo, don't bother. Sure, it's softpoint, but it has a steel core (check with a magnet) and if it's steel core, TSE won't allow it (I'm speaking from experience).

Well its supposedly hunting ammo so I don't think it will be a steel core...

Look into reloading. Startup costs are a B@#Tch but in the long run it saves. I roll all my own 7.62X39mm hunting ammo. Lee equipment is good for the beginner, and you wont be making/using a high volume of soft point for target work/ plinking Im guessing. Just make sure you get the 7.62X39mm kit with the crimper so you can crimp the brass to the projectiles

How much does it cost to reload per bullet? I know its better than buying factory but by how much?

I don't know where you can get cheap 7.62 x 39 (Namely PRvi Partizan), but I can tell you one place where you CAN'T get it cheap: Anyplace in the Kootenays...
