Check Headspace after build?

Hi folks. Just finished my very first AR build, and I'm very excited about it. Arms East and Questar have been stellar in their service, providing me with the parts that I needed.

My upper is all Stag. I bought a lefty receiver with the lefty BCG, and a 16" Stag barrel assembly with the ambidexterous barrel extension.

Seems to have gone together perfectly, as I would have expected from decent quality parts...question I have is, for those of you who have experience building AR's...how critical is it to check headspace for safety after you're done? Do you guys do this, or just go out and shoot it?

I'd be taking this to a local gunsmith, if consensus is that it's important. I don't really see myself buying the tools needed to do it at home.

Thanks!

If the parts are on spec, headspace should be fine. No harm in checking, though.
If ammunition chambers freely, headspace isn't too tight.

Here's a question..... If it is out, what are you going to do? If it is excessive, there is no easy way to fix it, other that perhaps trying to swap different bolts.

50cal...The upper is all Stag, but I bought them separately. Bought the lefty Stag upper and BCG here in the EE, and the Stag barrel assembly from Arms East. The upper and bolt appears to be either new or fired very little...

Tiriaq...good question. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there...but hopefully there are no issues.

Anyone know of a good gunsmith in Surrey?

What's with all the head spacing questions lately?

If built to tolerance, AR15 bolts and barrels are completely interchangeable. The beauty of the AR15 system is that the bolt locks into the barrel. By design, if the bolt closes, it's head spaced within tolerance.

It's prudent but the AR15 was designed to reduce the probability of a head spacing error low since it's only dependent on how the barrel, barrel extension, and the bolt mate together.

I just think Allstone read 1 to many Claven2 post's

As for a gun smith in surrey...
DON'T got to International PLEASE!
Bug Shayne at Reliable Gun as it shouldn't take him more than 30 seconds to do this.
Here's a vid on how to do it ;)

LOL...I actually did call International yesterday. The woman plainly told me that they only install accessories there, and for any real gunsmithing work, they send it out to their "sister" store...Italian Sporting Goods.
