Some of the real "purists" even consider removing the flaking shellac off a mosin stock and refinishing it an act of "bubba"
On my RC mauser I removed the crappy shellac and rubbed the stock with linseed oil and I have commited an act of "bubba" according to some even though the rifle looks a thousand times better now.
