"Check This Out!" <<<Graphic>>>

Looks perfectly real and perfectly painful, for the deer that lost the antler and the one that took in in the face.
Any visual difference in location of the antler 'insert' is merely a differing perspective.

Now if you saw this deer running around out of season would you shoot it to put it out of its misery.
I would then just call the authorities.
I think I also second the opinion of not eating this deer due to some sort of blood poisoning.
But what do I know im just a plumber with too many guns :D
Great pics btw.

No matter what, it's illegal to hunt out of season. I wouldn't risk getting a heavy fine and losing my rifle, car, etc.
Well, I wouldn't have a firearm with me out of season anyway.
Imagine the screaming anti hunters....
I guess, the only thing you can do is to call the Ministry hoping that they would get out and do something.
On the other hand, fights like this would probably happen mostly during rut. Hopefully the season is open.

Is that another deers antler stuck in there, or did that boy have a third antler growing out his eye socket?

I have seen a three antlered deer at a taxidermist, and they are around.

Looking at the differences in the front bases of his antlers, and the little stubs sticking up from his hair along the front of the skull.

The shape of the stub end of the unit out of his eye socket looks similar to the club ends of some drop tines.

What was the source of this set of pictures? Any follow-up?

Pretty cool trophy. in any case!

Cheers
Trev

I'm thinking it's a 3rd antler growing out also. Wish there was more info.

Third antler

This buck and the series of photos that accompanied it have been circulating the internet at a rapid clip, and for good reason - OUCH!
At first glance, it might appear that the antler through the eye was the result of a battle with another buck and that the antler is from another deer, broken off during battle. The truth, however, is that this buck had a rare third antler, which grew out of his own eye socket. Either way, there must be easier ways to impress the ladies."

What? Would'nt an antler growing out of the eye have tines pointing the other direction? Also. It looks like the base of the antler has hide on it from the other buck.

Weird.

Deer(bucks) regularly get locked together during rut fighting. I"ve seen cases where one buck with twine or wire around the antlers get "tied" to another buck. Sometimes they just get jammed together, like in this case. They can just die from exhaustion and dehydration. The eye of the buck looks clean with no infection, and there"s fresh blood on the 3rd antler, so I would say that it was a quite recent incident. I wonder what the regulations say about shooting a buck with another one attatched!?

There"s no way that grew out of there! apart from being back to front, antlers grow from pedicles, the boney ring on top of the skull. So unless this guy had a pedicle for an eye socket, then this is just another rut contest injury.
