Anyone know of a Canadian source for new cutter tips (Dem Bart) I emailed the company in Wash. USA got no response, Mostly I just need some new single line cutters, mine are all dull from running over old checkering.

Haven't started looking but I'm in the same boat. If you find a source let me know please, better yet post it up and let everyone know.
Actually I did do a brief look a year or so ago but Dem Bart was all I came up with.

Brownells Inc stock Dembart cutters... I have never had a Canadian supplier for Dembart in 50 years.

I much prefer the 90 degree cutters over the 60 degree cutters...

I ordered some cutters from KV woodworking supplies last summer, they carried Dem-Bart.

The guy that runs dembart is getting on in years and is not to interested in working these days .wont answer the phone or email unless he is in the mood .If you find any one let me know as I could use some too!
Some one should buy him out ,mind you not to many wood stocks these days .

If you find your serious about checkering look into Ullman Prescision. He makes carbide cutters and they are expensive but unbeatable. Good luck and enjoy the process

I looked them up and yikes 24 to 39 dollars US for a heat treated hand cutter ,not carbide only the power cutters are carbide.

Ha you made me look. They were sold to me as carbide and as long as they have lasted for me I believe they are. His website doesn't say carbide on the hand tools so I did a google search and they are listed as carbide on midways site as well as a few others. I can say not having to change the cutters is a plus and your right they are damn pricey!! To be thorough I am going to message him to verify.

There was a dealer in Winnipeg for years, but the fellow has passed away.
I may have a few left , but will have to check tomorrow. Don't have any doubles left I know.
I have sharped a few in my day with a slim knife file, they are not that hard.

There is a Stock maker in Harris Sk that has/ had new sets last gun show we did together, last year.

He has a stock duplicator, gunsmithing, Web site?? I never checked

I have lots of handles and good layout cutters, it's just my deepening cutters that are toast. I've read that companies like Parker made their own, mostly women doing the checkering, the foreman would sharpen them as needed...be interesting to see what those cutters looked like. On the subject of carbide, that would be great even at several times the price. Pointing up old checkering tends to dull the standard ones fairly quickly.
KV looks like a viable source for now.

I received a reply from Micheal Ullman. THe single line cutters and the power tool use carbide cutters. His spacing tools however are tool steel. Micheal Ullman purchased the equiptment to build his cutters from John Doiron when he passed. I for one am grateful he did so we hobbyists can still access great tools. Enjoy
