Cheddite Primers

I use them in various shotgun hulls to reload just fine. 209 Primers of any brand should fit any modern paper or plastic hull.

If you are stictly by the book, you will want to buy the type of primer/wad/hull your manual says for the load you use.

Hard evidence, no. But for quite a few years in the late 90's they were the most affordable primer so many folks loading bought them and used them with out any trouble. I'm sure I have used 20K of them in various hulls. FS
 
For me they have worked very well. They are about 1/2 a grain hotter than the Wln. 209.

Once you put a cheddite 209 primer in a hull that hull is now for reloading with cheddite only.They are slightly bigger diameter and stretch the primer pocket just enough that a win 209 etc will fall out.
Also although many people say they are a direct equivalent to a win 209 they are actually hotter and closer to s federal 209A.
I would only reload them with data that calls for cheddite primers. Here is an example from another form

Rem 12ga STS Hull
1 1/8 oz Win 209 WAA12 18.4 Clays 1200 fps 11,300 psi
1 1/8 oz Ched 209 WAA12 16.4 Clays 1145 fps 10,600 psi

Substituting the Cheddite 209 in load #1 with the 18.4 grs of clays would probably push pressures quite a ways above SAMMI, They'd still be fine in 3.5" guns with a SAMMI ratings of 14,500 psi,but would be over the recommended pressures for 3" and 2 3/4" guns.
The cheddite/win primer switch isn't identical ballistically in all cases.So be careful and load only published recipies for them don't do direct win 209 switches with out checking the pressures being developed with the change.
 
My ML uses 209 primers.

Winchester and Fed all seem to shoot about the same; 1985 to 2024 fps with 150gr 777 pellets & 250gr Hornady XTP & sabbot.

The ched primers seem to bump up velocity a bit 2005 to 2038 fps, with the same load, also a touch more accurate.

That used to be the case. But not anymore I interchange WW and Cheddites all the time and never have a primer fall out or even loosen up. They used to be a touch wider but now they mic. the same.

Never changed to my knowledge but I believe you. You don't notice it in 12 ga as much but it is brutal in 410.I just got a batch of 300 410 hs that were loaded with Cheddites then winchester. They are a mess almost all of the win fell out..

Here you go. I learned something today. I guess there is three different ones potentially sold in the US the cx2000 are the same rest are not.

Mine for sure are not ( bought around 2005/2006) you have been lucky I would say and have cx2000. I got them for like 23/1000 so god knows what he got in.

win 209 flash hole .235 flange end .239
My cheddite flash hole .240 flange end .242

Apparently the cx2000 have a red end on the flash hole mine are all black.

Mine are Red (and black when used :)) but they are not marked CX2000 anywhere on the box. As I said they mic. the same as the WW.

yep yep yep. If they are red they are cx2000 and would be within .001 of a winchester. That is why you are having no problems with the holes in your hulls.

From what I have read on the SGW site the primer slieve should have cx2000 printed on the back of it.theres a whole thread talking about cheddite primers.some have also reported problems with pierced cheddite primers.personaly I only use published data and use cci 209 or win 209 depending on the data being used.for a few cents per primer in the difference
its not worth the chance of damage or injury in my opinion.

I have had better luck with Cheddites than with WW. Many more failure to fire with the WW than the Cheddites.
 
So after great reading and the comment just above from Rembolt I have decided to go with what the book says for an extra penny per primer. I was able to take back the cheddites and get some winchesters in place. I am very anal when it comes to safety so I am going with the book not the net this time. But thank you for all the info and help regarding this topic

There is nothing wrong with being anal when reloading. This summer it will be 37 years since I pulled down my 1st handle and reloaded a shot gun shell.I have had years when I would load 2000 others 30,000.
I have never never loaded anything that was not a published accepted combination.I load every gauge from 410 to 10ga in both lead and steel.
I can count on one hand over all those reloads how many duds I have had, not too many. I use 99% winchester 209 and just have a few boxes of cheddite because I had a opportunity to get them for 23/1000 a few years back.
I use them on my 12 ga crow loads which are a cheep federal hull and home made shot I buy from the guys at the club and that is about it.
Take your time and you will be fine but never experiment with reloading.
