Chee-a-pass Bandit Bootleg (AKA Booty Bandit) range reports and modifications thread

I like the idea of a cross-draw holster, but I have used right-handed holsters for antique revolvers mounted on the left side with excellent results. As long as the holster holds the gun straight up and down, or better yet angled with the butt forward a bit, a right-sider works great on the left. That left-handed holster pictured above looks like it would need to carry the gun with the sights facing forward and the trigger/lever towards the back? Wouldn't that require an awkward twisting of the right wrist to grab the thing and draw it from the left side? Or am I reading this all wrong?

Lol, after reading the previous posts, I went to the safe and checked my copy of this little gun. Pushed on the rear sight with my thumb and had very little difficulty removing it completely.

I'm sure the marketing guys will describe this as a quick-adjustable rear sight; no tools required. :)

Good call on checking the takedown screw tension Swampy! I've heard others online say they have noticed changes in cycling smoothness if the takedown is too tight, I haven't even bothered to take mine apart yet and anticipate only doing it once in a while for cleaning.

I like your idea of putting a hi viz sight on the front. I'm pretty sure any type of peep sight mounted to the rifire grooves on the receiver will need a taller front sight and was thinking that a dab of epoxy and a short length of light tube placed on top of the sight post would be a win-win.... :)

A real motivated person with a dovetail file and a hacksaw could even cut the fixed sight off flush and then cut in a 3/8" dovetail to run any front sight a person would like.

The push-pull works a bit better with a bungee sling attached to the grip.....the sling also provides hands free support and makes cycling the gun from a high ready or even on aim hold way easier due to the support provided.

This is a gun that really needs experimentation with some unorthodox holds and shooting positions which is part of the fun and experimentation process.

The small screw that looks like it's supposed to lock the windage adjustment of the rear sight in the dovetail doesn't seem to do much.

The stock rear sight won't be going back on mine that's for sure.

The gun with the red dot on top fits in the drill holster in both orientations, the left side holster worn on the left side should tilt the gun nicely butt forward when the booty bandit is placed in the holster "backwards" from how a drill would be placed.

I'll post some more pics when the left side holster comes in but I'm pretty sure it's going to work well for right hand cross draw.

Are these worth the asking price? Would like to get one and tinker with it a little bit.
I agree with Swampy, the price is right and there's no reason to fear "devaluing" the gun customizing it to your liking... :)

The flat top file job is something that Chiappa should do at the factory.... makes no sense to limit mounting options by having a higher rounded receiver top.

Some good suggestions/info in this thread!

The QD sling stud is a great idea.
I was thinking of drilling a 1/2” female threaded stud in the same position, then having a separate male threaded bar with a simple shoulder brace on the end. Can screw in the ‘stock’ when wanted and pack away in a bag/pocket when not. Had an air pistol once with a similar setup.

Not had mine out with the red dot yet but should be some good clean fun!

Tuck tape for scale.

That should work out well Morp!

I lined up my sling cup location and angle to work for a shoulder brace and I inserted a sling stud cup into a carbon fibre tube I had left over from another project but the sling cup connection is a little too sloppy.... threaded insert would take care of that nicely.

As far as indexing the butt end I'd just make the butt end round so it doesn't matter where it gets indexed as you snug it up.

What rail adapter did you use? Did you trim it to length.... it looks like the length is perfect!

Yea good idea re. butt stock. Will be fun to play around and see over Xmas.

The rail adapter is 3D printed from a seller on Gpost. Perfect length with a curved base. They’re also going to be offering other furniture/butt stock options for the la322 in the near future apparently.
My other dovetail adapters didn’t fit because of the curved receiver - and I didn’t trust myself with a file!

I was wondering how long it was going to take the 3d people..... :)
I'm tempted to buy a laser scanner and printer!

Who made the rail, I'd love to throw some ideas their way... I would like a small section of rail to go between the rear sight dovetail and the barrel band!

Chiappa is a strange company that makes some strange decisions at times.... the arched top of the receiver is a perfect example of unnecessarily bad design. The pistol grip they came up with for their little badgers is another example of terrible design...

Well, I saw that Western Metal still had a sale on these for $389 so I placed my order today. I'm already really tempted to order that 3D printed rail as I have a spare old Vortex Crossfire red dot laying around that I could drop on there, though it's not going to be as good as a pistol type red dot I don't think, but still probably better than the stock sights?

The crossfire should work out just fine and be way better then the stock sights.... I ran a spark 2 on my little badger for years and it felt like a small optic till the next generation of micro red dot's appeared.... :)
I do like the ability to run flip up caps on some of the more traditional small red dots.

The Osight S2 is a pretty nice little enclosed reflex style pistol optic and is on sale right now(20%0ff) for less then $300 with a lifetime warranty. The only issue is it needs an RMSc to picatinny adapter plate to run it on a picatinny rail.
I'm using this one that is around $30 on Amazon and it seems to be working just fine.

The Left Hand Drill Holster arrived today and I'm pretty stoked to say it's quite a nice fit for an off the shelf re-purposed application!

There is room for an even bigger red dot then the micro I have on right now, there are some other pockets that could be useful, It even comes with a belt and has safety orange for hunting season.... :)

It looks like it should be easy enough to mount to most back pack hip belts as well. It reminds me of the "gun bucket" holsters that can be quite accommodating to different shapes and sizes. Two thumbs up!

It also pairs well with the basic lightweight bungy strap, It's pretty easy to adjust the length of the strap so that the should strap carries a bit of the weight and holds the gun a bit higher in the holster suported by both the holster and the shoulder strap. Less weight on the hip belt and the end of the barrel is higher up from the back of the knee.

I wish I could remember where I got the basic bungy sling I'm running on the B.B., I think it might have come as a freebie with a Turkish Shotgun.

It's got the perfect amount of tension through the bungee portion and the rest of the sling is very lightweight and basic, not overbuilt like a magpul or some other military style single point setup.
