Cheek Pieces?

Mounted my scope and even with low tac rings on the rail the 50mm objective brings it up too high for a good cheek weld. Sits on the jaw right now on the Rem LTR. Saw some info on the Karsten, looks good, but read a post from a former HS stock maker who said it would "break his heart" to see anyone do that to their stock (drilling required) with all the aluminum/carbon fiber etc gone into the stocks.

Then there is the issue of bolt removability.

What are you all doing for cheek pieces?
 
Karsten....no issues with bolt clearance, as they can be readily adjusted. I have one on my Savage 110 Tactical. You have to REALLY WANT IT, as installation is impossible without drilling. If it is only a schitty Tupperware stock - who cares, but lancing a HS Precision, McMillan....I personally don't have the stones.
 
Short actions shouldn't be a problem,, Long Actions will hit,, personally I would try a find a leather filled cheek-rest that straps on.

Made in Canada on CNC machined moulds. Proper ergonomics aid in eye alignment, unlike some other cheek rests that make the stock much wider.

To remove bolt, just lower the cheek rest to its lowest position.

How timely...looks really well engineered. Not concerned about resale of my 700, it's one of my cold dead hands items, so I'm ready to cajone up and have my way with the HS stock (some more, I bedded it on the weekend). Functionality is #1.

I am half considering getting an item called a Cheek Welder,

Do a Google search....."Cheek Welder - Cheek Piece"

I like that it is a tool less mount but don't offer it for my Savage VLP at the time.

Just thought I would point out another option.
 
Karsten, that's funny. He was all in a huff one time about someone copying his design. I asked if he bought out Rooster33 or was he making his first. Never did get a reply to that :rolleyes: I guess it paid off for him though, he sells them to manufacturers now.

Kydex is NOT cheap :eek: I know because I had to buy some since no one was making these things. Then I had to buy some knobs. And then more knobs because they were not quite right. I have about $100 invested in knobs alone and I don't want to tell anyone how much the Kydex cost me. Nice stuff to work with and super tough, the only plastic good enough for Military use. Too bad TAC PRO wasn't making these when I needed them.
 
I have a Bushnell 6500 on medium high rings sitting atop my Rem M700 sendero 300 win mag. I encountered the same problem but I didn't want to drill or cut into the stock. I picked up a strap on cheek. rest/ammo carrier/utility pouch. Its made by Blackhawk, and sits very still on the stock. Hasn't moved since I put it on. The foam is solid and contoured, allows air to keep your cheek cool while maintaining a good solid weld. You could easily put extra foam or other shimming materials underneath to adjust height as you saw fit. Puts my eye into solid line, and adds a "tact-i-cool" edge to the rifle. Cost about 55 bucks when I picked it up at P&D enterprises.

Thanks, appreciate the additional info. I saw that one on my net searches yesterday. Supposedly very solid. Might be a bit of a compromise without any adjustability, but less fuss. Hard to tell how it all fits the stock and cheek from just pics. Looks a little thick? Wonder if the stock would get marked from sliding it on and off.

hmm, snap on, strap on, or bolt on...

Yeah, I've worked a bit with Kydex and was considering making my own bolt on but Tac Pro has it all worked out already for a better price than Karsten. I can see the knob/washer issue being key to success or failure. Looks like Karsten went through some changes with their knobs. My stop at C-Tire after work didn't improve my perfect knob/washer expectations. Might be able to match the kitchen cupboards for suburban camo, though. :p hmm, ornate brass or porcelain balls?
