Thanks. Its a home made. I used fiberglass and built up layers on a steel template. Bent the sheet metal to fit the stock then sprayed the template with PAM and coated with fiberglass. Three inserts drilled into the stock take the allen key bolts. All flush mounted to the stock. I think it looks ok and should help with the high scope mount. The scope system works really well, just make sure to get a new rec. cover mount and fit it tight. Bedliner fom Can Tire. Works good but will fall off corners if not totally stripped of cosmo. Handgurd off ebay

You may like to know that its comfortability to shoot and accuracy has improved substantially. One of the very low points of the commie gun design including SKS was their very poor stock design and the lack of ergonomics. By the way, this is just the experimental prototype. Next stage will be a refined synthetic version.

No, looks aside, you should have destroyed a cheap Norc SKS, not a beautifully grained Yugo. That rifle should have been left alone and for this you will go to hell. Norcs are made for bubba-ing, hell use them for prybars, who cares!

What I learned:
1. The stock of SKS is a graceful work of art, it can not be tampered with by cutting and attaching metal to but can be made even more graceful by painting it with bedliner;
2. The performance of this antiquated semi-autimatic can be improved with a very limited ergonomic stock design. For an original stock modified for standing position only which allows for the length of the butt to be adjusted per indivdual shooter, a raised cheek rest, a forearm handle and rear pistol grip that are wrapped with rubber tape, I an average shooter can hit a steel plate 1ft by 1ft in dimensions 225 yards away 5 times in a row for the worth of a full magazine in standing position while the rifle is stabilized only by its sling wrapped around my left arm. Now imagine what would have happened to us if those commies had known this before their demise.

If this was a norc, i dont think i would mind so much.
However, I do have to give you credit for making the rifle fit you better, if indeed it does. When its go-time and for whatever reason you absolutely need to be able to shoot accurately and comfortably, and this is the rifle that allows you to do so, then more power to you. Its ugly, but then again, its an sks. I think the sks is a beautiful firearm, but its also a utility firearm.
If this was an Enfield, or an M1, or really anything but an sks, i think i would have to kill you. The fact thats its an sks makes it slightly more tolerable. Now that ive thought about it, contrary to my first post, id have to give you a thumbs up.
Just... repent, and never do it again.

I just got back from range testing it again. It was dead accurate and pretty consistent again. For a twenty round box, two 5 in a row and two 4 out of 5 hits. Same target, a 1X1ft steel plate 225 yards away. Before this modification, I was able to just barely get close to those hits while shooting bench rest on a sand bag.
Answering your question, actually I tried few aftermarkets. Most of them are designed to be more appealing and cool rather than functional. For example, ATI ultralight foldable has an unusally long foldable butt which is too wobbly because of its sloppy hinge. Others had the same dimensions as the original which is a short butt and no provision for adjustability. Also none had any provision for the forearm handle which I needed for stable shooting in standing position. Besides, all of the aftermarket ones were cheaply made and of no solid fit compared to the original stock. Now this is going to be my beloved hunting rifle.

I have to disagree with you, not all are a sloppy fit. My Choate Dragunov stock is very tight, better than original fit on my Norc and quite solid. I did a little trigger lapping, added a Wolf spring kit, drill and tapped a Choate scope mount, added a pin on muzzle brake and it shoots great (just wish I could legally load a full stripper clip into it at once.) The cheek rest and length of pull are fully adjustable. It does not have a front handle attachment but I personally don't like them much anyway. I have tried the ATI folder and Dragunov but do not like either of them. I just got a Tapco in the mail this week, waiting to get another Norc next week to put into that one.
I have a Yugo but I am afraid to put a mark in that stock because it is perfect.

Did anyone else notice the high speed black electrical tape "insulating" the handgrip for increased shooter comfort? Or, the brass sheet reinforcements? But maybe I just have a strong stomach.
