I'm thinking of installing ghost ring sites on my 870 to help me out with slug accuracy, and I was wondering if they'd force you to raise your head too high to get a good cheek weld. With a front bead I can get down low on the stock and not get wacked by the recoil and I was at little worried that, even with the Wilson ones that I'm leaning towards, the cheek weld would not be as good. What's your experience?

I have a rail on my 870 and a PSI ghostring sight mounted on that. I ended up putting a Blackhawk cheekpad on to give me a bit of extra height. This also helps when I switch to a scope during hunting season. The nice thing about the Blackhawk pad is that it comes with several different thicknesses of high-density foam that allow you to custom fit how much height you want. As with all Blackhawk stuff, it's built to last. I find the comb on the stock too narrow, and the pad really cushions it from whacking my cheekbone. Between the cheekpad and the R3 recoil pad, I can hammer out slugs all day and not feel it.

First off, the accuracy difference you will experience with the ghost ring is night and day when compared to shooting with just a bead. You will be able to maintain a good cheek weld with the ghost ring, but because it is slightly higher than the bead, you will not need to mash your cheek down as hard on the stock as you do when shooting with a bead, so the painful snapping back of the head is relived to a large degree - particularly if you shoot from prone.
