Hi,
coming from (not-so-good-anymore)old Germany two years ago,I really enjoy the canadian freedom!
I'm almost 43 and shooting since age of 16, have been youth instructor in our local gun range in Germany,was for else mainly invoved in CAS and brought my non restricted guns with me (...just to find out I should have been bringing them all,since a restricted licence is not much more work to get than a non restricted).:D
I'm collecting old shotguns (real life guns that saw (ab)use or neglection,NOT the $50.000 Parker or Purdey)
And in the Exchange Forum I made it already to a warning by posting the same gun into two categories -SHAME ON ME- I know,I should read the stickies first ....sorry,CGN-team. Won't happen again!:redface:

Anyway:Hello to all CGN members,hope you may never run out of rounds/shells and cold beer !

I have a German friend here in SK who breeds some excellent dogs. The topic of bringing guns over from Germany came up this weekend.

How difficult was it to bring your non-restricteds into Canada? What process was involved?

:D No difficulty at all! (in fact it was harder with more paperwork involved do get my Dog into canada!!!)
Since the guys from Germany usually don't have a canadian PAL the have to get a non resident firearm declaration ( CAFC 910 ) wich functions as a "temporary" licence...for 6 months and can be extended -once only-for another 6 months. No aquisation with this one,but you can buy ammo for the guns you brought (when applying for PAL ,just make sure your 3-year-references in Germany speak english!!!...I got trapped there wich resulted in such huge time delay that my 910 form expired and I had to hand my guns over to local RCMP 'till my PAL was done)
Anyway,fill out online and print out in Germany,you can fax to RCMP for acknowledge or have it signed at the port of entry customs...really,no big deal-they didn't even look at my Guns (brought 5).To get them out of Germany is a different story...first you need a Ausfuhrgenehmigung and a whole pile of other expensive crap,but that was not the question here,right?
 
Welcome aboard. If it wasn't for your entry, I would have never found out about the saskatchewan social board. Just joined up, now have to spend some time in it.
 
What is it with new canadians from germany and guns!!! My main hunting and shooting buddy is a German immigrant as well. Welcome and enjoy, I have heard germany makes our laws look like a walk in a park.

...for a word you don't even use in Germany that much,despite in other countrys,your german might be better than you think;)
Ausfuhrgenehmigung = export permit (the difference is permit= one time one person only,licence=whatever howoften you want + licence would be $800 more to pay for...)

...true!You know what a firearm safety course and the PAL costs,right? Here some figures from my licences back then (PAL does them all)

Safety Course w.diploma 450,-EUR
Police Record 25,-EUR
Explosive licence (for reloading)280,- EUR
Non restricted german Licence (everything but Semi auto and pistols/revolvers+restricted ammount of firearms) 130,-EUR
Collector licence 1200,- EUR
Ammo licence 130,-EUR
(All costs to get the licence included,and then you pay 25,-EUR for every gun you register or unregister...:mad:)
this prices were in canadian $ times 1.6 when I came over...I'll leave the math to you.
And the paper crap easy takes over a year to get any licence,You have to be in a shooting club for more than a year and so on...
