chest freezer sizes?

Hi gents.,

How many cubic feet in a chest freezer is enough to hold an average adult moose and two adult deer? Or am I looking at buying two freezers?

I bought an 11 cubic one last fall, and put in 350lbs of boneless moose and 1 deer. Probably could put another deer in...

If you went to a 13 cf you'd have lots of space...

Get 2 smaller ones and don't put all of your eggs in one basket, so to speak. My parents have one that is small enough to take with them on trips to PEI. They come with a freezer full of seafood every year.

I have 2x 8.8cu freezers. I filled one with a small bull moose and had to put the rest in the other along with a w.t. buck.
So if you go by what "blargon" said, and 11 cube or bigger will suffice.

Whatever you can find used at a good price on Kijiji! Often the 20 cu ft ones are the cheapest. While a smaller one may do, the bigger one is easier to sort through.

A big deer can yield about 60 to 80 pounds of meat. That will fit in a standard refrigerator with room to spare. Give you an idea of how much space is needed for one.
An average moose yields about 300 Kg of meat.
All of which would be dead. snicker.

My 42" bull yielded 540lbs (250kg) of boneless meat. That's from a 13-1400 lb moose...

How many moose have you shot?

My 2yr old bull yeilded roughly 300+lbs of meat give or take.Thats an Alberta moose shot on farmland. I had him cut up to the following; 1x hindquarter minute steaks (yes thats right minute steaks), 5 roasts (we don't eat alotta roast), steaks (crap-load) and the rest burger. That completly filled one 8.8cube freezer with about 1/4 into the other 8.8, if remember correctly. But as was mentioned, you then lack sufficient room for sorting thru & looking for specific cuts, but that was'nt too entirely hard as I had all the min.steaks on the bottom and one side, steaks on the other, with the few roast in the middle, then burger near the back. The remaining burger went in the other 8.8 cube along with a 2yr old whitetail buck.
