Wanting to retire my PLA type-81 chest rig that I use with my Vz58. I know nothing of tactical fashion so I'm in need of some advice.

First off I'm not going to any competitions (yet...) so I have no defined purpose. Just fun on the private range.

I'm wanting a light weight MOLLE rig that can sit about waist level to mount 2 single Tacos, 2 double Tacos, a dump pouch, a utility pouch for tools (broken case extractor, sight tool, lube... etc) maybe a pouch for 7.62x39 stripper clips, and a surplus Vz58 bayonet (just because).

Did some shopping around the net... more confused. So many options. Also, I'm a bigger guy so it needs to be large.

Thanks in advance.

2017 is the battle belt year for me.

2 x double HSGI taco
3 x kydex pistol mag pouch
1 x pistol holster
1 x 10 12ga shell (optionnal)

Got suspenders "just in case" but the belt doesnt get heavy with our magazines laws, even with full beowulfs or coupled lar15

If you are just having fun and may compete or take classes at a later date you can not go wrong with 5.11 brand. Simple, versatile, expandable, well made and good resale.

I'd also recommend a belt of sorts. Infinitely customizable to your specifications, much nicer and comfortable to wear, and usually easier to put on vs climbing through various straps and buckles of a chest rig. I'll only sport a chest rig if I need more than what my belt will carry.

Thanks for the input guys. Sold on the tactical tailor MAV 2 with a extended harness and centre piece... but for the same money I can get the RAC?

Decisions, decisions.

If you want light and waist level i would go for MAV2. The RAC sits higher and feels more like a vest. I personally like the MAV2 cause its lighter and less material so my body can breathe better. I sweat a lot lol

battle belt with harness?

I too would go battle belt. Suspenders can be recommended as it does get heavy and running may make it slip down (or up).

A lot of gear can be put on a battle belt. I have 5 pistol, 4 rifle, 16rds of shotgun. If required, I sometimes add more shotgun with a removable drop pouch on the front. Also works for rounds where mag retention is required.

Keep in mind some people tend to wear way too much gear, then fumble with it throughout stages.

I've noticed a butt-load of Warrior Assualt Systems gear on Amazon.ca (shipped and sold by Amazon) Expensive but I can return it hasstle free. I like their H-harness and belt set-up.

I usually support CGN businesses but no-one else is offering this in Canada.

Just a update. Took the plunge into a battle belt set-up. It's a mix-mash of brands that I hope does the trick.

HSGI suregrip belt
Warrior Assault Systems H-harness (I like the large back panel)
Elite Survival Systems CO Shooters Belt (best sizing spread)

Oh nice, I went with the HSGI suregrip and rigger belt with front cover for more real estate. I have my M&P VTAC 9mm, dump pouch and six double decker Taco's(Rifle/Pistol).
I added a 3" drop on the 9 and it now sits just perfect for me(no wobble either). The reason I have so many mag pouches is cause I don't want to run my Siege R Optimized Carrier all the time and needed more pouches for when I take it off.

Thought about the belt bridge but that limits my ability to go prone.

Going with 6 single tacos and a Mag-Net dump pouch. And other various utility pouches as I see fit. I have to wait for all the stuff to arrive to see how it fits together. I might have to break out the para cord and some d-rings from Hudson4supplies.

This is what I went with.

HSGI sure-grip belt
HSGI harness
Elite Survival Gear belt
X3 single tacos
X2 double tacos
HSGI dump pouch
HSGI 2QT utility pouch
TT canteen utility pouch
TT/MSM admin pouch

I had to custom make some straps similar to the HSGI low-drag suspenders which works quite well. I may need to get some of the AK friendly retention tabs. All I need now is a blow-out pouch... eying up the SOE gear-off.

Overall I think I did ok with my design considering I don't know what I'm doing ;)

My "fun 58 rig" just for fun. Thanks to our great magazine law 12 mags in pouch and 2 coupled for a grand total of... 70 rounds. When running CQB (5 magazines) I only load the front magazine pouch and stuff ammo/tools/food in the side pockets.

And here is my AR15 battle belt:

-HSGI Suregrip battlebelt
-Solely Canadian holster w/ RTI ultimate drop from g-code
-SORD dump pouch
-2 SORD single magazine pouch (coupled) with coupled LAR15 (40rds)
-triple pistol mag kydex holster (30rds)

* starting with a couple LAR15 + 1 pistol mag so 60rds carbine/40rds pistol
**missing from the picture is the shotshell pouch

This will be my "fun rig"... even though I went too far with it. lol. Didn't need the extra pouches or the planned blow-out pouch. The space is there so I might as well fill it.
