Ok Fellow CQB and SR Gunnies,

I finally want to transition from my Blackhawk Omega Tac Vest to a lighter more flexible chest rig:

So please if you can weigh in with the following in mind and maybe what your set up is:
I'm looking primarily for a CQB competition set up and Service Rifle ( Would need at least 10 5rd mag for SR)

1) Brand and Model ?
2) Minimum 6 AR Magazines for CQB ( Preferable maybe double stack 10-12 ) HGSI Molle set up ?
3) Room for 2 Pistol mags either on the Chest rig or Belt setup

Thanks in advance for your input!
Happy Summer Shooting :)

I'm sure you'll get lots of opinions. I use the 5.11 tac-tec chest rig. Will hold 6 mags and there's room on the front to put pistol mag pouches. I run mine open top with no bungee retainers. Works ok for me. There may very well be better out there just don't have any experience with.

SKD tactical's PIG UCR is worth checking out. Also the haley strategic stuff looks interesting. Most rigs will not have 5 double mag pouches on the front because that is too wide.

I think this may also be a solid option!

My suggestion is to keep pistol pouches on the belt, that way you always reload your pstol the same way.

For cqb you really only need four ar mags on you, i usually start the stage with one in my pants back pocket, this is the one i load at the begining. My setup is three on the front and one ''speed reload'' on the left. You take mags on the front from the right to refill your speed reload pouch as needed when you have time. Mine is on a plate carrier but the same can be achieved witha chest rig.

Like this:

If you want more capacity you could run double m4 pouches with the flap on the front so you could have 6 + 1 speed reload + 1 in the gun and maybe 2 on your belt or in a pack for a total of 10.

I would recomment the blue force gear rackminus for a chest rig it is absolutely great and very lightweight.

As for SR i have no idea as i never shot a match

Very nice rig and thanks for the feedback :)

Very happy with my Condor rig.

I'm really happy with the Tactical Tailor MAV 2 Piece with the X-Harness added on. The MAV 2 has buckles on the front so you can open it like a jacket for easy on/off, and the X Harness makes it really comfortable over your shoulders and has an easy carry strap for moving it around. It's also built like a tank!

Add 3x HSG double Taco pouches on your off-side and you can carry 6x mags that don't really get in the way when shooting prone as they all fit on one side of the front buckles.

Happy Shopping!

Go check out the pictures of past CQB events and see what people use. I really like Ganderite's minimalist approach held together with bungee cords. It sure works for him, just check out his scores!

Yah great shooters in Ontario, I managed a 3rd place last match here in QC with my BlackHawk Vest :)

I'm narrowing it down to the AO HSGI with the belt...I like the options they have for the TACO Mag pouches...

I finally made my choice! I find it super light and no chest rig required...
Went with the Following HSGI setup:

1) HSGI SURE-GRIP® PADDED BELT and COBRA 1.75” RIGGER BELT
2) 2 x DOUBLE DECKER TACO® - MOLLE and 2 x TACO® - MOLLE
3) Level 2 Soley Canadian Kydex Holster with RTI Adapter
4) Dump Pouch

It's very similar to this set up and will work great for CQB competition, I would add a chest rig for SR competition....
