Chest Rigs and Mags for your Black Rifle

At the range I use 1 mag. I have never had a target rush me. I'm no hurry to erode the throats in my barrels.

If I see you at the range with a chest rig decked out with 10 X 5/30 round mag's I'm going to wonder if you are mentally fit to own a firearm. So will most other people. Try to be a positive role model for the hobby.

Your comment is irresponsible, baseless and without merit, many on CGN partake in competive 3 gun matches & as such practise with the equipment. Your assessment is flawed and insulting to say the least, especial the part about being mentally fit to own firearms. I respect you and anyone else that is involved in the safe use of firearms, but my tolerance level changes when you make judgement on others based on equipment choices & use of firearms.

You realize of course that a number of police and military also own personal firearms and like to train on their own time.

Like you?

Chastising anyone who doesn't shoot the same way you do?

Way to be a positive role model.

Absolutely. Why would I want to shoot more than 5 or heaven forbid 10 rounds at a time?

I love stopping every string to reload my magazine. Who wants to practice mag changes or malfunction clearing? It also makes a 300 or 400 found session last just that much longer.

All sarcasm aside, I typically load 100 rounds into mags before shooting so I don't have to stop every five rounds.

I did get some strange looks from the older guys at the range the last time I was wearing my tac vest and shooting relatively rapid strings. They also had their AR's in lead sleds and wanted to check their targets every 5 rounds

Other guys at the range had no problem with it.

To answer the original post, right now I run 4 mags on my vest and one in the gun. I'm considering going to 6, but I don't really need to for what I do. 16 is a lot of ammo!

I didn't know Fudds like you owned scary rifles with detachable magazines.

I used to think this way as well... Why would any idiot wear a rig to a range unless they were a mall ninja wannabe...
Then I did a bit of competitive tactical shooting and learned
A) if you don't practice with all your gear, it's going to fail you on the day
B) shooting at the range is boring...

Anyway, the other guys have made the point over and over.

stay in your lane.......and think before you type

Seafury, how about you come out to a Service Rifle match and see how your 1 mag fares during the 500 yard rundown.

Been to service rifle matches. 3 X 5/20 round mags in my pocket worked fine. My comments are meant to remind you guys that people are watching. Try not to look like the Michigan Militia to the average population for all of our sakes.
Next time your out pretending your 10-22 is full auto realize how dumb it looks. Much like a lift kit and a skull on your window makes you look retarded.

Its about practicing with the rig so that you don't drop mags and fuddle with your pistol or rifle during a comp.

Those chest rigs are weird and uncomfortable and you need to practice your movements while handling firearms (while shooting and changing mags) and also while not handling firearms (walking/changing to the targets during a cease) in them. I guess I could wear it around the house and on while doing groceries if it offends you seeing me in mine at the range. So yah i look funny with my rig and camo pants, but fack it, I stopped caring about what people think of me about 12 years ago

It requires a lot of practice as I'm still dropping mags while wearing mine.

How does one get to Carnegie hall again? Practice, practice practice...

Plus what the fack do you care what I'm wearing?

Overseas I ran an LBT plate carrier and 6 mags up front (with a couple pistol mags) and 1 in my C8. I carried another 2 on a belt and a couple on the back of my rig and usually a few in my radio bag.....near a dozen I guess.

And we have an Internet pussy folks... Got offered to show up the guy he "called out".... But he's just going to run and hide.
Shoot me a pm anytime. I'll swing past your moms house, pick you up and we can go to the range.... Unless you're scared.

I'd be scared too to be picked up by you, sorry, you're a bit aggressive...

I bet when your life is on the line the last thing you want is to be out of ammo...

But I also want to be able to get my ass low. Hence only 6 on the chest ;)

You know whats funny though, is I've seen some british contractors out in Iraq with an AK and only 3 or 4 ak mags in their jacket pockets and a pistol tucked into their belt with 2 mags in their pant pockets without even a holster, no chest rigs. Those brits are funny.
