Chey Tec 408

The US Gov was so intent on us not having them that in order for the movie to get the three sent up,they made the company re barrel them with smooth bores that were too small to fire anything live. They worked fine with blanks.
The caliber has potential but the rifle was crap.Buy a Timberwolf instead.

Why is that the case? What specifically were they saying was the problem? Apparently the .416 Barrett was approved for export, just curious to know.

Was it the Chey Tac rifle or EDM Windrunner that you had? By numerous accounts the EDM's are very well made, though admittedly I have no first hand experience with either system.

odds are you need a approved end user certificate, either for military or police use to get one of these to shoot up here in canada

Apparently they didn't want us nasty Canadians to have them as I guess we are just too dangerous or support terrorism or something equally stupid. They never did tell us although I'm guessing the end user cert had something to do with it.
It was the M200 we had 3 of.Totally overbuilt for what it was.Way too heavy.Stupidly built safety.Carry handle/head spacer on wrong side of gun and way too big. You'd figure for a stupidly expensive gun it would at least have a jewel trigger.Nope.Regular 700 trigger.

I am very surprised that the 416Barrett is approved for export given its roots with the equally evil BMG. Isn't stopping CGN'ers from shooting it.

I met a few big bore LR match shooters that we trying the 408 over the BMG given the hype and 'better' bullets. The big issue was supply (one each) of brass and bullets. Brass is now two suppliers but still only one bullet maker and they cost the moon IF you can even get any.

A recent TV show did illustrate that many of the initial teething problems of QC and accuracy may have been worked out. Performance in that show was very good but.....????????

Wildcat was supposed to be working on some bullets but have not heard any developments.

Building a rifle to house this cartridge is pretty straight forward but being able to shoot the CT/Barrett/BMG continues to be problematic.

Given what a monster 308 or 338 can do out to a mile+, makes you wonder if you need all the add on hassles and costs???

We aren't trying to stop armoured vehicles ARE WE?????????

IF you can get some Chey Tac brass, necking to a 338 will allow a 300gr MK to be pushed on the high side of 3400fps from a 30 to 32" pipe. Do the math on that at a mile/2000yds.

AFAIK, the .416 Barrett is NOT authorized for export from the US as per the US State Dept. as the cartridge is based upon the .50 BMG case.

The latest/greatest development in the .408 saga is that Lost River Ballistics, basically the sole provider of high quality bullets in ths calibre, has gone out of business.

Secondly the .375/.408 Chey Tac wild cat seems to be slowly building momentum. With LRB out of business, look for this cartridge to gain further popularity. Sierra is comming out with some 350gr. MK's for the ,375 bore so it looks somewhat viable from a component availability stand point.

The US is authorizing export of rifles chambered in .510 DTC based on the .50 BMG case so I don't understand your argument. Do you know this for FACT or through inuendo?

From my local sources in Calgary, trust me, you can't bring in a 416. I'll say it again just in case someone is going to argue this some more. A 50cal base with a shortened casing is still a 50cal base therefore it can not be exported unless you're importing them from the UK.
