Hey guys,

Recently while at the range shooting my Chiappa M1-22 carbine suffered a failure to feed. A quick look showed that the rifle suffered a breakage, specifically the section of the"M1 Charging Handle - Bolt Carrier" that connects the bolt to the charging handle snapped off, making the rifle unusable. I suspect it is a defect in workmanship as the rifle was under no undue stress.

Ammo was typical Federal 40gr Automatch and the rifle was properly cleaned and lubricated. The shot itself fired fine and there was no noticable change in noise or relt recoil. Casing looked normal and had no cracks, burs or other defect . Failure occured in the first magazine of the day - 5/6 rounds in. Rifle has had approx 2000 rounds through it in it's lifetime and didn't appear to be worn out or damaged prior to this.

I've reached out to Chiappa over a week ago and it's been crickets - any idea who the importer is? I bought the rifle new a few years ago and would like to get it up and running again as it's a fun range toy.

Yes I understand these are high end precision instruments - but a metal part cracking off to me seems unacceptable and the radio silence from Chiappa doesn't help.

Other than "these are junk why bother fixing it" - does anyone have any thoughts? It's a nice rifle for fun plinking and I'd like to get it up and running.

I wanted to like these M1-22's so badly it hurt, but when the two I had BOTH broke in the same place you're describing I had to tap-out.
Murray Charlton in BC was the warranty center some years ago and although they were great to deal with the wait from Chiappa was a nightmare.
As soon as I received the new parts both rifles were sold as the pot-metal parts on bolt are a major design flaw.

IIRC my original wood one had around 3500rds through it before failure and the poly one closer to 1500. They were not from the same batch and this is a known issue with M1-22's.

Chiappa is capable of designing and producing some great firearms as well as some steamy piles but they almost always look fancy as they seem to be mainly concerned with appearance.

Essentially the exact issue I have now. Its interesting to note that this isnt an isolated incident of parts failure. Its a fun little plinker, but this is really disappointing. I have an actual USGI M1 carbine and I loved the idea of a small, fun plinker with similar lines.
