Chiappa M1 Carbines in 9mm!!!!!!! Non Restricted

Interesting. Offhand, can anything substantial be ethically hunted with 9mm? I am not familiar with the round?
I suppose if I weren't so lazy I could look it up, lol...
Is there a 5 round mag available?

Would a well-placed 115 FMJ work on rabbits, raccoons? Never looked into this myself either.
Might have to pin your own 4-rounder (4+1, right?) for hunting use.

well, out of a long barell, a 9x19 is going to go pretty fast. If a .22lr will stop a bunny, these would easily. way heavier, same or more velocity, easily dispatch small game.

.22lr out of a rifle is roughly 120ish lbs/ft of energy at the muzzle.

9x19 out of a pistol is roughly 400ish lbs/ft of energy at the muzzle. In a rifle length barrel it would be higher. Also, I would have to look it up, but I bet 9mm has more energy at 100m than .22lr has at the muzzle.

Plus, 115grn fmj shoots pretty flat, and stays flat longer than .22lr. Less drop is what I am saying, so easier to aim and sight in for different distances. 147, not sure, as its not even supersonic.

I've taken a black bear with 9mm, and it gets the job done. It was a defensive situation with an unruly 5.5 foot 350 lb bear that wanted at my dog in my yard. The glock 34 9mm was most handy. Mag was fmj and hollow points alternating. About 30 yards away. Not the best choice for big stuff but in a pinch... bunnies and Coyotes wouldn't stand a chance within a 100 yards using hollow points.

Just bought a synthetic model from CSC. A more detailed review and range report to follow (I'll post in the black rifle section), but generally:

- both rear and front sights are steel
- barrel band/bayonet lug is plastic/polymer (and no a bayonet will not attach at the rear lug, but it does fit over the barrel at the front - I have not checked to see if a USGI part will fit, but can't imagine it won't)
- trigger guard is plastic/polymer
- mag adapter/mag well is aluminum
- USGI oiler and sling fit with no issues.
- USGI stock would require some work to fit, but overall dimensions seem correct.
- mag included is indeed a pro-mag, and is ok quality wise.
- weight and size compared to my 43' national postal meter is pretty much bang on.

With slight modification xd9 and xd40 mags will work as well. The magazine catch will hAve to be cut on the side, but otherwise it works good.

As do CZ75 mags, but I'm finding the mag catch location is critical to proper feeding as the mags are fed into the magwell vertically, and therefore not much of the base of the round is exposed to the bolt on feeding. The mag catch cut almost needs to be a tad higher for a tight fit.

How much did you pay, if you don't mind me asking?

Great.....thanks for the details.......sounds great so far.

I don't mind polymer and from the details, it's in non critical areas.....cool.

Look forward to the field test...

This sounds really interesting.
Looking forward to the rest of the report.
I'm also interested in whether a USGI type 3 barrel band and bayonet lug would fit.

Considering it's designed to work on humans out of a 4 inch barrel, you can probably assume it's capable of taking similar sized game and smaller.

I'm not suggesting taking it deer hunting, but why wouldn't it (in theory) work.

I would not consider 9mm capable of humanely taking game similarly sized to humans, deer for example. The deer would probably die, but finding it is another thing.

That is assuming you did not shoot it in the head.

People poach deer all over the states with suppressed .22LR, an a headshot drops them INSTANTLY.

I will agree that shooting for the heart will likely not go well for the deer, but a head shot will drop it like a bad habit.

Chemist can you order in those cheap heat shields? There is also a picatinny type and AIM sports scope mount. Maybe a package of these together. Chiappa also makes a paratrooper stock I believe.

First thing I thought was, how could I get a folder on this gun? :)
Pre-ordering a woody.
