Tried searching by couldn't really find what I was looking for. Looking at starting to reload for my mares leg, what kind of pressures would you guys recommend? Just the standard pressure loads or the high pressure loads designed for the t/c contender? Thanks in advance.
 
"...pressures would you guys recommend..." It doesn't work that way. Loading is done for accuracy or velocity, not pressure.
"...designed for the t/c contender?..." Absolutely not. Think lever action. Loads for a Contender will very likely blow your toy into next week.
 
Unless the manual says it can handle higher pressure loads it is probably designed/proofed for the standard pressure loads.
Many people point out that it's the exact same action for the 44 mag version so it "should" be able to handle up to that pressure in 45 Colt but I wouldn't do it myself.
Personally I'd pick up a decent mould, cast some bullets up, and start from the standard starting loads for 45 Colt using powders I already have. If you don't cast, just buy some standard 45 Colt bullets.
 
Personally I'd just use the pistol data in the Lyman book. I load mine to the hotter end, mostly to help the cases seal better (might try annealing them next time).
 
Well basically what I was asking is what pressure can my gun handle. I bought the gun used and did not get a manual. Thanks for the direct answer Mark-II. You answered my question. I now know I will just load regular pistol loads. And I am not very concerned about accuracy. I have my scoped rifles for that. Just looking to do some plinking. Thanks
