Chiappa Mares Leg Feeding Question

I have a Chiappa mares leg in 44 mag. When chambering a round if I rack it fast/aggressive then there are no feeding issues.. but if I rack it any slower then that 'speed' the round gets stuck halfway into the chamber.. I then need to back off the lever and the shell then flicks up into correct position so that I can close the action and seat the round. But again, no issues at fast racking speed.

Any ideas why this happens?

Thanks.

It happens because you are racking it too slow. It had to be designed one way, and racking it more slowly was not that way.

I have a 357, same thing.

I got around it by observing the issue, going online reading about it, then i was sure to rack it correctly in the future.

I havent had any problems since, but that me and how i do things.

Cheers

I have a Winchester 1894 lever action and it doesn't matter how fast I rack it and it will feed... so it cannot be a lever action design thing

I have a marlin in .357. I found if the bullet is set a hair to low and there is a lip on the case it will bind unless I rack aggressively. If its smooth, no issues no matter the speed.

Mine does not care for the Hornady FTX. Others cycle perfectly each and every time, racking slow or quick...must not like those little plastic points....

I was always taught as a kid that guns are designed to be operated "smartly", no babying or hesitancy. My Chiappa Mare's Leg takedown was purchased on the EE, used but with a very low round count, and it hiccupped when I tried to cycle it slowly, but fed'em every time when cycled with authority. Now, after I've put several hundred rounds through it, it will feed beautifully at any speed.

It's like the old joke: "Doctor, it hurts when I do this." "Then don't DO that!" :)

Have a look at this picture of the Hornady FTX compared to standard load 44MAG.
I believe that it is the increased tip height which causes the occasional hang up on feeding of this round...

Has anyone tried filing down the polymer tip to resolve the feeding issues with the leverevolution bullets?

Then what would be the point of paying the extra $$ for the leverevolution rounds? Its the polymer tip that supposedly gives it the longer range. Otherwise just shoot flat tips.

What kind of ammo are you using whenit happens? I have 2 92's (Rossi's), one a Ranch Hand, the other a carbine. The only issues I've had were a few cases when using cast SWC's. I cast RN only now, and no issues at all. Don't fire much factory or jacketed stuff (hellno, I ain't rich!!!!), but I haven't had any issues I can remember.
