I have wanted a Mare's Leg for a while, and I now have the funds to do so. So I want an opinion from those better versed in these firearms. I can get a Rossi now, or wait for a Chiappa, and who knows when more will be available.

Should I wait to get the Chiappa? Is the quality worth the wait? I'm really only interested in the .357 model with a large loop. I don't want a Henry since they dont have the side loading port.

No experience with the Chiappa here. My Rossi (45LC) was rough but perfectly functional out of the box (well, except for the common high POI issue). After some serious elbow grease and a couple of aftermarket additions, it is slick and smooth.

Fit and finish on my Rossi Ranch Hand .357 is pretty good, no complaints other than the way way high POI with everything bottomed out on the rear sight.

The Chiappa's are really nice, very nice finish - and that brass… OH the brass…. :)

BUT… the Chiappa's are a BIG weight add on over the Rossi's. Especially int he Hexagon Barrel. Feels like 2+ pounds.

Ie got a Rossi in .44 and love it. No issues so far. You'll need to buy a lower rear sight though. My POI was 12" high without it lol.
I put a full stock on it and it's awesome

I have been looking at both. I prefer the safety on the Chiappa. Additionally, the stock sights on the Chiappa are roughly a $100 upgrade on the Rossi. I will make the same choice when I am ready

What sights do you suggest?

I assume you are asking about sights for the Rossi. StevezGunz has a bolt-mounted peep sight that works like a charm. Pull out that gawdawful safety, and the sight assembly drops right in the gap - It almost looks like it is supposed to be there.
