Forum,

I am thinking about getting into IPSC as I have been a bulls-eye shooter for quite some time. I am thinking about trying revolver class and the
Chiappa Rhino Revolver 357 - http://www.chiappafirearms.com/product/728, is quite appealing to me. With that said, I'm not sure if I would be able to use it in IPSC revolver class. I would purchase it with a 5" barrel, but its not listed on the IPSC of approved revolvers. Is it possible to check with IPSC about new firearms as they are developed to see if they are permitted?

Brian

I didn't know there was an "approved Revolver List" I thought the list was for Production Only! At any rate, are there speed loaders or Moon Clips available for the Rhino?

Yep, just double checked, there is no Approved Revolver List. Here is a link to the IPSC Rules though:

http://www.ipsc.org/rules/

Download the PDF and go to Appendix "D" for revolver related specs.

There's a reason (several, in fact) why moon clip loaded revolvers chambered in .45 ACP dominate in IPSC Reveolver Standard Division......

.... if you really want to compete in IPSC with a revolver, get a 5" S&W 625!

Rumor has it, Chiappa Rhino has quite bad trigger pull. Also, .357 will require speed loaders, which is slow and it is unclear if there is speed loaders that will work.

If you are interested in IPSC revolver and buying a new gun, I'd recommend S&W 625 in .45 ACP and it feeded with moon clips.

PS: there is no approved list for Revolver division

Thank you and I stand corrected on the approved listed.

I assumed there was as on the Production list becasue the following linkhttp://ipsc.org/rules/proddiv.php mentions several revolvers example: Manurhin MR73, Smith & Wesson and Ruger up to max of 5" barrel.

Thank you for the suggestions,

Brian

you are right, there are some wheelguns on the list, the Rhino is an interesting proposition if you have your heart set on it. K or L frame speedloaders should work and if they do go with comp 3's if you can get them. The under barrel is also a neat feature and the trigger is not that bad just need some breaking in from the one I got to handle.

mrclean,

Thank you for reply. From what you recall was the barrel in line with the web of your hand or above/below?

Thanks,

Brian

I was awhile ago, but I am pretty sure it was a bit below. Missed out on a chance to fire it but you can't get a lower boreline and the controls are reachable enough that you don't have to move it out of your shooting hand on the reload.:)
