Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone out there has any experience with a Rhino, specifically a 50DS chrome finish. I'm interested in purchasing one and just looking for a little feedback on it. I have a S&W 686 and would love to get another .357mag revolver. Where can I find them? Epps has black finish but I prefer my revolvers shiny lol. Plus $1000+ seems alittle steep, are they worth the dough? Thanks

I went to Epps and looked at that gun not to long ago because it looked so interesting and futuristic. However, it is one of the weirdest guns I have ever handled. The grip is so different than anything I have used before and the cylinder release is very awkward. It also a hammerless design so in order to shoot in single actions, you must pull back this lever which is almost like a de-cocker. My advice though would be to definitely see one in person before you buy it. I also have heard of some quality control issues related to the Rhino revolvers. In the end, you really must see and feel one in person before you lay out that much for a revolver you might now even like. However, I will say it is the coolest gun I have ever seen! Good luck with whatever you decide to do :)

The "White Rhinos" do look nice and I liked the black one I handled enough to consider ordering one, I still might. There's a white one listed on the EE used for $1500 but there's no way I'd pay that. $1050.00 plus tax and shipping for a new one, maybe. Think I'll wait though. Maybe the novelty will wear off and the price will come down. I've seen used ones on Guns America for less than $600.00 so who knows how the market will play out.

Thanks for the feedback. I would love to give one a go before buying one but that seems to be a bit of a problem since they appear to be scarce around my club. The gun shop I get most of my stuff from would probably order one in if I asked nicely so I might try that. I'm sure that if I didn't buy it ,someone would just on appearance alone, lol. I'm going to look abit more into the QC issues too so thanks for the heads up on that. I have also heard that you have to make a bit of a grip change due to how they shoot which could take some time getting use to. The prices I have seen so far seem to be a bit crazy for a black finish.

$1500 used?!? Wow, thats steep considering they are going for around $1200 NIB. I saw one on another canadian site going for $999NIB+free shipping but it too was a black finish. $600 would be great but after all the broker fees and duty and all the other BS it probably wouldnt be any cheaper getting it from down south.

Yep, $1500 and the guy is adamant. Will not budge on the price and you know it will not sell at that price when you see the number of times he's bumped his ad.

You're right, not cheaper to import new ones yet at the current prices. I checked a couple of places in the US, Bud's Gun Shop in Kentucky being one of the exporters. After all was said and done it would have cost me nearly the exact same as buying one from Prophet River (I would have saved about $20.00) but it would have taken 8-10 weeks. Not worth it right now. I would definitely consider importing a used one if the price was right.

There's tons of Youtube vids on the Rhino. A lot of the complaints were because of the trigger pull on the first gen models. Chiappa did improve the trigger on later models and there's also a trigger kit you can get that greatly improves performance. All that is explained in the video clips.

Dammit, now I just talked myself into a buy mode. :D

Got to shoot a black rhino down in Vegas last month, and it is definitely an interesting design. Feels good in the hand, and when you shoot, it has an unusual recoil, with the force pushing into the middle of the palm of your hand.

Th only things I didn't like were the sights, but that's probably just a matter of getting used to them.

If they were available for under $800 I'd already own one (black or white). Maybe next year...

The hard chrome model is also now available in a 6" target model with fiber optic sights. Not sure if they made it here yet or not but you can purchase them in the US and Prophet River will do the importation for you. The 6" model also comes with an integrated scope rail which is a great feature you may want to take advantage of down the road. Several weeks back there was a post stating North Sylva had a new batch arriving so you may want to check with a dealer and see what they just received they should be the latest generation models.

By all accounts, the reliability issues have been corrected judging from the latest owner feedback. Downside is they are still expensive but you pay for the technology Chiappa has engineered into this gun. If you ask me I think they are worth every penny of the high price tag.

It's good to hear about the reliability problems being resolved. When I originally bought my Walther P99 I was told that it was gonna cost around $1200-1400! I said no way would I pay that much for a polymer, so I came back a few months later and asked again and they were able to get the price down to $899 so they ordered 4 of them which sold in a heart beat so I'm sure if they can move on the Walther that much I'm sure they could do the same for the rhino (hopefully). The cheapest I have seen a Black Rhino was $999 so I'm sure it will be more for chrome. Nogami, did it recoil like they say it does? .38spec feels like a .22 and .357mag feels like a .38spec?

When the first generation Rhinos arrived in Canada they were selling for $899.00 and most were quickly sold out. Couldn't beat that price and even discounters like Bud's Guns in Kentucky were selling them for $859.00. (black 6" model)

I only shot .357 magnums out of it, but I didn't find the recoil to feel less powerful, just that it felt like it was directly into the palm of my hand on the same axis as the bones in my arm, rather than a flip-up. Very comfortable to shoot.

Woo hoo! I'm on the list to get one in June. I manage to get them to add a white Rhino 50DS to the order they just put in. Can't wait.
