Pictures of my hunting partner's and my moose taken mid-October 2009. We both shoot the .300 Weatherby which worked well for me as my Bull was running away at 175 yds. in shoulder high buckbrush and all I could see was his head and neck. I swung through the nose and luckily got the round high in the neck. The 180 gr. Barnes X did the rest. The best part is that with the amount of meat we took we are free for a two week Sheep hunt next year.

We were hunting off the Chinchega Road north west of Manning in Northern Alberta. We quaded in 10 km and set up a camp. We really lucked out as the majority of hunting camps were going home skunked. A local worker at a oil compressor station back where we hunt past a locked gate where only ATV's are allowed told us in the small pocket we hunt a group of First Nations individuals had been in on sleds in January/February and took over 40 cows and calves. He also said they were in over the summer leaving before the first of us with moose draws arrived. We spotted the first Bull on the way in to set up camp and I stopped for a little walk about and could see he was on the trail of a cow and a calf. I suggested to my hunting partner he hunt the mornings there as the Bull would probably hang with the cow. He shot the bull on the second morning. Four days later I spotted a small bull in a big buck brush flat and ran 75 yds. where the brush was not quite so high, coming just up to my shoulders. When I got there the bull started running and as I swung my gun up I saw a much bigger Bull behind the first one and was able to poke him. My partner thought I had missed because he had only seen the first Bull. We left the area two days later because this area is a dumping ground for problem grizzlies and we have had some major go-arounds with them. Still a great trip for these two old boys.

Nice moose, we saw some bigguns flying over that country last summer! Great hunting country! Saw some beauty whitetails too.

Nice bulls. My dad used to hunt that area years ago but now we've hunted the area SW of Grande Prairie for about the last 20 years. My dad said the moose in that area are huge compared to the area we hunt now, by the pictures I've seen he is right.

I have worked down that chinchauga road - can be a hellish mess when it gets wet. Saw some nice moose back in there though. Looks like it was a great hunt.
 
nice work man! we were out at manning for a week this year, I got a nice bull elk, but didn't see a single moose, I think it must be all the wolves ???
