I cant believe its $600+- . I know everything else is going up but how can this crap that's still from the 70's be triple the price in 4 or 5 years? Are the wholesalers really paying triple the cost? They cant import this into america can they?

Sorry, what's the context here? What's $600 - corrosive or non-corrosive and what quantities/ how many?

Retail-wise, at present 500 rounds of Norinco red box non-corrosive is about $10 a box when bought in bulk...1000 rounds is roughly around $500.

I was able to get some on the EE (2014 Norinco NC) for about $8.33 a box but I bought like 1500 rounds.

I have friends who told me that it wasn't that long ago that it was $4.00 a box for non-corrosive.

Guess with Barnaul/Tulammo/Wolf out of the picture at present, the demand for Norinco as the only real viable option for steel case probably has contributed to the price increase.

Last I saw a crate of 1500 corrosive was something along the lines of $460. I haven't been buying this long enough to compare historical context, but I would presume it was probably much lower 10 years ago but then again, my buddy was buying SKSes for $175 or less...I won't even mention what I recently bought two of mine for, but it certainly wasn't that. Would imagine the respective ammo prices for 7.62x39 would rise in tandem.

Buy now. Its the calm before the storm. I see a massive spike in price for x39 in the coming months.

Totally agree with your assessment. 7.62x39 is literally the only ammo I am buying now and heavily on the EE and secondary markets whenever I find some...bulk red box has jumped at a couple of stores in the past month - I would expect a commensurate price increase to follow for individual boxes...

I may dive into corrosive to save some money - I don't mind cleaning the gun every time.

I remember a deal from marstar or perhaps Canada ammo about 6-7 years back that was along the lines of a 200$ sks with with a free case as well as buy an sks and it came a free dewat ak74 or something like that too. 2 years ago the local shop was selling it for 270/1440 I believe

Oh my gosh, I envy those who were able to take advantage of such great historic deals back then! My buddy mentioned to me the $175 SKS deal but in doing some very elementary research on it, I told him no thanks, I will never drop that kind of dough on an "old gun". Oh, do I ever feel like a dope now...

Those are wonderful prices for ammo - and it's not like it was even that long ago.

It's almost like you were buying the case of ammo and the SKS was just thrown in as a bonus.

How times have changed.

i was at cabelas a couple of days ago and their surplus 7.62x39 1100rds is $549.99 . i was surprised to see barnual 20rds box for $19.99

That "Good price" at Tenda is for 1100 rounds - still comes out to 0.38c PLUS TAX & SHPG = well over $0.40/round ($0.4936 to nb). I bought 1500 for $612.00 Tx & shpg incl = $0.408 / rnd - back in March this year. IF you would get Free Shpg it would still be $0.44/rnd.
However, Tenda ammo there does come with strippers ...

I'm surprised were still seeing Barnaul in stock at all.

In regards to bulk corrosive you can still find crates of 1500 on sale for $450 or less. Wait for the black Friday/boxing Day sales again this year, I'm betting you'll see those same crates at under $400 and the boxes of non corrosive for $10 or less.

Home Hardware on 18th Street in Brandon MB used to sell chinese SKS for 150$ with crates of ammo sitting right beside for 99$. That was somewhere between 2003 and 2008.

Those were good times that most younger guys like me (back then) thought it would last forever. I’m glad I listened to those "old crusty bastards" who told me "spare as much as you shoot young man".

I recently lucked out, there was a handwritten ad at my local range last week. I scored 1380 rounds (one box shy of a crate) for $350 from a nice gentleman. He was selling a numbers matching, mint Russian SKS and the ammo for $750. I already have a couple SKS, but had a buddy who wanted one. He took the gun for $400, I took the ammo for $350. Win Win

Remember the sales at CanadaAmmo of Dominion HP for $199/1000?

I wish I was there for that I only started this hobby once I moved out of parents house few years ago and by then best price I could get was canam dominion the non corrosive made from the Chinese components it was like 1000rds loose so usually you get a few extra since it’s loose for $350 on sale decent stuff stocked a few boxes of em glad I did since prices on corrosive is getting pretty high now.

I just saw Cabela's has the Norinco 7.62x39 non corrosive on sale again for $9.99 for a box of 20.

I would take the negative reviews with a grain of salt. I bought 25 boxes when this was on sale a couple of months ago, and have shot through 9 boxes so far and all of it is non-corrosive. Cabela's does have free shipping over $149 (pre tax) but you need to use the discount coupon code on on the top of the page
