Apparently Cabelas Norinco ammo is corrosive, has anyone tested it?
Yes, I have tested it - hundreds of rounds and I can affirm that if it bears the 311 - 20 headstamp it is not corrosive. I also bought the same red boxes from G4C with 311-20 headstamp and shot about 500 of those and it is not corrosive.
I would like to see anyone who claims it is corrosive to post the headstamp. Yes, I have read the Cabela's reviews but there is not enough context from the reviewers, especially with posting the lot numbers that may be affected. I am not saying they are wrong; just that the current batch that Cabela's has with factory 311 and year of production 2020, are not corrosive, f
rom my experience. I also don't know if the folks who are indicating corrosion are shooting only exclusively those Cabela's rounds and not shooting other rounds before or after.
If there are corrosive rounds in there, I haven't experienced any, and I have experimented with this many times, and not cleaned my gun for weeks, checking on the gas tube and piston rod often (those are the primary places you will see the corrosion form almost immediately). I also have checked my barrel, that shorter piston rod and spring that is under pressure, as well as the chamber, action, bolt assembly, etc. So far, Cabela's and all 311 - 20 - I haven't experienced corrosion - and I take my SKS to my range weekly and unload hundreds of those rounds.
I can also report that I have shot 311 - 19 (bought hundreds of rounds from Tenda) and it is non-corrosive red box.
I also have shot hundreds of rounds of 311 - 14 (Norinco white box) and those aren't corrosive either.
If there are corrosive lots, I hope people can post the lots / headstamps so we can steer away from them.
