chinese Lever action shotgun

Barry and Eric on youtube had a couple and said they had problems. They demonstrated it not ejecting shells properly out the rear. That was the biggest issue with the gun. I may be able to find the link to that video.

I saw this video and they did have problems. However, I can't help but notice that they may have some bias against a chinese gun imported into their U.S of A.

Love the lever scatter gun, but it might be a little too complex for norinco lol. Don't get me wrong, I have/have had lots of norincos, but this just seems likes it's gunna be a problem.

And yeah, imported by lever it pretty ###

wow!
I'll stick with my Maverick 88
not even one jam in 5 years

Wow, what a POS...I have a Norinco 97-1, the same one that is used by the Chinese police for riot duty (has an adjustable rear sight for buckshot, bean bag projectiles and tear gas shells) and I have had zero feed issues. I guess the lever design needs a little tweaking.....

Sick gun buddy!! whats the procedure to chopping the barrel ? just measure and hack it? would i have to notitfy the cfo of the modification? (here in quebec..waaaah!)

The gun doesn't eject modern shells because the most common shells back when the gun was invented were 2, 1/2 inches in length, while now we've got 2, 3/4 or 3 inches. They're just a bit too long. It's not the guns fault you're putting the wrong ammo in it.

Chiappa i think it is, is also making an 1887, but whereas the Norinco is a faithful reconstruction of the original 1887 the Chiappa ones are re-designed to shoot modern shells and have a smoother action. But they're considerably more expensive.

geeze, i thought these were sold into extinction, now i see they have them in stock.....damnit, looks like another new purchase might take place, and something else from the safe to sell off lol.

well I bought one and love it. it does have some quirks and it does not extract the last shell.

I see why barry was getting frustrated in the video, if he loaded more than one at a time it wouldnt be so bad, the last empty shell just gets caught up on the carrier/ejector. I think it will be a simple tweak to fix it

the action on mine is much smoother and opens fine though

videos and tweaks coming as I edit/upload

I am unfamiliar with the design, but couln't norinco just then add a disruptor or slide slide of sorts to act as a safety? Even if they were to charge $50 a retrofit each, it would still be an amazing deal, and have them enter your country again.

~ But it may be wishful thinking on my part ;)

Maybe a gunsmith can make prototype and submit it with a dealer's specs. Cheers!

These are popular in the land Down Under where us sporting shooters are not allowed pumps or semi auto shotguns. Back in 1996 when our laws became ridiculously tight (due to the Port Arthur massacre) the only lever action shotguns around were collectible and expensive ie original Winchesters so nobody bothered banning them.

We get them branded as IAC but they are the same gun. They were available as 28" or 20" although they stopped importing the longer ones ages ago due to lack of demand. You can fit five in the tube, on on the carrier and one in pipe for seven rounds of fun :D Note, they can not take 3" shells.

They are no longer being imported here at all due to Customs deeming the design unsafe. Apparently the firing pin rests on the primer or something and they do not have a safety. Half #### used to be deemed a safety device but their policy changed for some reason.

The importer changed all the firing pins out for shorter ones to get them through Customs but were forbidden from bringing in the original firing pins even as parts. The result is the guns out of the box are a lucky dip. Some work all the time, some work with only certain brands of shells (mine would only fire Winchester originally) and others would work but only intermittently. The solution was to pay a gunsmith $50 to make an "extended" firing pin. Now mine works a treat.

The only thing with these shotguns is you have to make sure you cycle the action completely or you won't eject the spent hull, you will just put it back into the chamber. Be rough and it will work every time, be gentle and you will think you have bought the most unreliable POS ever. Ours came with leather strapping wound around the lever and I thought it looked like crap but you will be glad its on there after blasting for a while.

Chiappa make a version as well but here they are about $400 dearer than the Norinco and from talking to shooters who have the Chiappa they are no more reliable and one guy even said he wished he had just bought the cheap Norinco cause his Chiappa wouldn't cycle for crap even after three trips back to the dealer he bought it off whereas his Norinco works every time. The Chiappa is prettier and they also make a stainless version but I have heard first hand from a number of unhappy Chiappa buyers and not just of their shotguns but also their lever action rifles.

These guns are great fun!
