as we all know, the problem of most of the chinese m14 rear sights is because the knobs can strip easily.

My question is, can i just replace the knobs? or do we really need to replace the complete rear sight?

This will be shown at the December clinic. As there is also an issue with the rear sight base line not being cut properly. Plus the rear peep sight also having a miss alighned whole drilled. This is all on top of many factory issue's with the rear sight that we will go over.

I've only replaced the 2 knobs, all the other chinese parts fit and work well! :D The 2 knobs were really lousy back in the 2002 series of M14's. Then when I acquired a 2009 Poly, the sight knobs actually  worked! :D

Cheers and hope this helps,
Barney

The rear sights on my current Norc 2007 M14 work just fine.
In my experience, working over several dozens of the Chinese M14s,
about 50 % of the Chinese rear sights work .... OK??

HOWEVER,
the majority of the newer Norc front sight bases and the flash hider splines, are very poor for true. Before deciding thaT the barrel indexing is out, pull the flash hider off, check the spliNes and check the front sight base.

That being said,
with my ten years old LAZERED eye balls,
I don't shoot well with Irons no more.
So I usually put a scope on my 14s.

I've designed a NEW M14 scope mount that completely replaces the M14 rear IRON sights. Prototypes of this NEW M14 SCOPE MOUNT will be available for handling at the Victoria Gun Show this Halloween.

Check it out ....

OK, just one pic to whet your appetite ....

Notice how it mounts INSIDE the rear sight pocket,
with the sight ears as super solid mounting points.

This prototype mount has about 100 rds on it, with ZERO extracted cases caught under the mount.
Torture testing continues ....

for this design particular, where the mount sits inside the big solid rear sight pocket, we are thinking that steel would offer no structural advantage, and of course it would weigh more.

Why would you want steel, when most of the modern picatinny rails available are made from munimula alloy?

Laz; While replacing my rear sight with an M1 unit I was thinking about why there weren't any mounts utilizing the void where the rear sight sits. Two days later you post this. Please contact me when they are available for sale. Thank you

Good on ya! Hope it dosn't cost as much as a real WhiteFeather ;)

Not exactly the same. At the front of the Whitefeather mount, SDA used a cut down barrel shoulder, and a big lug that fits into the space between the barrel and the receiver to SOLIDLY lock in the front of the mount.

I've always suspected that Sproingfield made a mistake on a BIG batch of barrel shoulders, cutting them too short, and designed the Whitefeather mount to use all those otherwise unsalable barrels ...
but then I'm a bit of a cynic.

Actually, this is the mount I dreamed up several YEARS ago, after I saw a Garand mount that used the rear sight ears and sight pocket as a mounting location.

I have been trying for years to get Dlask and a few other manufacturers interested in this design, without any success,
SO,
finally,
I got them made myself.

After some more torture testing and fine tuning,
and checking to see that the scope mount WILL hold up to several hundred rounds of full power 7.62 NATO ammo, with a BIG scope on it,
If all goes according to plan,
the initial run of these scope mounts will be 40 - 50 units.
Pricing should be $ 125 ALL IN, taxes and shipping included.
Hopefully available before Xmas.

PS:
Any one in the Victoria area with an ACCURATE M14 and 100 rds of ammo to test it with, can get in on our testing program, and get one of the production mounts for free.
