So with all the Chinese Type 56 SKS carbines coming over here through the various importers, why haven't we seen any of these Chinese Type 53 "Mosin Nagant" Carbine variants? I knew nothing of them until I saw a picture of one for sale on Gun Broker during an SKS search.

Yeah Ive known about these for a while. They are quite rare in Canada. I have seen only one for sale in Canada in the 5+ years I've been actively in the firearms community, and it was bubbad.

Would think that with the number of SKS China has, that they probably have large stores of everything that they ever built. With all sorts of Russian and eastern block milsurps coming our way off and on, one would hope that there would be more of the same from somewhere like China. Especially on the M44 variant front since so many people seem to be waiting for one.

I've heard most of the Chinese were stored in very poor conditions (no grease, high humidity) to find a shotable one is quite a feat apparently. Although I wouldn't mind one myself.

Ya, once I knew about it I did a search on GB and most looked really rough. I figured the US may have been shut out on newer imports and maybe they were all Viet bring backs or the like. Shame there aren't any greased up stored like the Chinese SKS, or at least a shame they haven't been "found" yet. I have visions of guns in boxes that even the Chinese have forgot they have.

Following Gunboards the threads seem to indicate that although available, the 53s are usually in poor shape. I wouldn't mind haveing one but need more of the Russian ones first.

A Russian M44 would be an awesome bush gun for camping. Given the reported condition of the Chinese ones, I'd hesitate unless I looked it over REALLY closely.

Back in the 1990's Century,Montreal had fews of theses, fair condition at best, for $54 if i remember, still wonder why i didnt bought 1...Doh!

Joce

I bought one, it looked like it was shipped over in salt water lol, amazingly it did'nt shoot really badly ( about 4 inch 3 shot groups at 100 yrds if I remember properly) Unfortunately I whored it off for something else years ago. Now I think about it, that was the last one I remember seeing.......... oh well, another rifle I shoud've kept, that makes about 300 and some..... god I'm old
