I suspect sooner or later they'll be the worlds only super power. So elite or not, if your 'one in a million', there will be a thousand just like em! I like their odds!

A couple chinese navy boats pulled into esquimalt a few years back, i traded some stuff for pins and a peak cap, funny though, they wanted watches and running shoes...made in china

Some interesting pics there. Looks like only one man of the unit was issued optics for his 95. Also looks like one guy has the type 88. Would be interesting to see what pistols they were issued (if any) - I didn't notice any holsters.

Yesterday the Chinese announced they were sending 3 warships to protect Chinese shipping off the coast of Somalia. The fact that the Chinese navy has to go protect national interests shows how far the pirates are beyond state control.

China has a long and deep relationship to some parts of Africa. For example, for certain diplomatic agreements, they will build your country standard pattern soccer stadium(s).

Claven2 has asked the right question. As to how well trained they are, I would hazard a guess at very. China has been playing catchup in the special forces arena for quite a long time now, specifically after they saw how well they performed when deployed in Iraq the first time around.

I have a feeling that these guys are in line with US Army Rangers or British Army Paras.

or canadain boading party...hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahah...hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha...haha.... you get the point

What state? Somalia? Somalia is a semi occupied failed state suffering from international meddling and civil war (been the same for the last 20 years or so). But that is only MHO.

At the end of the day, it will be countries like China and India that solve the problem of piracy - they're the only ones willing to speak the pirates language rather than the UN's language. "Stop, you're eligible for a special program" is nowhere near as effective in the real world as "Stop, bang, bang, bang - what do you mean you can't swim, too bad"
