Does anyone have any experience with the monte carlo stock that Choate makes for the SKS? I took a look at the ATI stock and it seemed pretty beefy. What's a good quality aftermarket stock, looking to use it for irons and to increase LOP. Thx.

I had a choate monte carlo stock on my sks. They are very nice and I would buy one again if I needed to over ATI any day. The only draw back to it was that it needed to be bedded where the recoil cross bolt would be located. I have a thread here labelled my mall ninja, I'll post a pic when I find it.

I have the choate dragunov stock for my sks. the quality is outstanding. it might LOOK like the ATI but it is much better. I have never tried the monte carlo stock but i bet it is as good as my dragunov stock. Choate doesn't make garbage in my experience.

Can you use irons comfortably with your Choate Dragunov style stock? It kind of strikes me as more suited for optics. I really want to try that BC Tactical picatinny rail that mounts in place of the rear sight down the road so I can mount a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot on it. Also, is there a lot of work to take it apart for a quick clean?

Yes, you can use the irons. There is a removeable cheek riser that allows a full weld for irons.

Yes I can I just leave the removable cheek piece off. cleaning is not a lot of work at all the cover comes off as normal and so does the gas tube. there is no need to take the rifle out of the stock unless you take it swimming. It fits nice and tight and includes a shim and a replacement gas tube pin. I picked it up once and bought it right away.

I too have the Choate Dragunov. Very nice fit and I find it VERY comfortable. Great for shooting using the iron sights, nice longer length of pull which gives me a better irons sight picture (for my eyes anyways), comfortable pistol grip. Like MG4201 said, there is a removeable cheek rest, so easy to switch to optic height cheek rest if your so inclined. I think it is much better than the ATI stock. The Dragunov stock of the best things I've got for the SKS. That being said, I generally do not like switching stocks on old milsurps but this is one exception. Of course I still have a few SKS's that remain as is.
