I've been looking at the Choate ultimate varmint stock and I like what I see. But I have only seen them for Rem, Savage and Win. So I was wondering would the stock built for the Savage fit on a Stevens 200? Are the Savage and Stevens close enough or am I off in left field? If its no use, any other good ideas about a nice new stock??

IMHO it would look kinda goofy with the factory barrel though, the barrel chanel on my 308 10fp is quite wide even with the heavy barrel , so you would have a huge gapeing hole on each side of the barrel with the factory one . but yes they fit

BCBOY thats another thing I was worried about, but I am intrested in a new something different from the regular stevens stock. Anyother suggestions?

Nice wood stocks at boydsgunstocks, you can get a nice laminate for a savage for about 85.00 bucks, require final fitting and finishing though. Huge improvement over the crappy stevens stock.

But even the crappy Stevens stocks can be improved upon. Filling the stock with foam and stiffening the forearm with epoxy and keystock is easy and works quite well.

Boyd's stocks are a drop in fit , with minor fiting and sanding. Currently all shipments to canada are on hold as they had 14 stocks seized by US CUSTOMS on july18th (one is mine:mad:) because they filled out the wrong paper work ,so they a trying to get it figerd out and wont send any up untill it is delt with ( I have anouther one siting at boyds waiting as well)

One of the best things to use to stiffen the forearm on stocks is broken fishing rods!

I never throw one away, and often pick up ones I see laying around.

Just rout out the fore end, cut the rods to fit, and glass them in.

You will be amazed at the difference! :D

Aluminum arrows work great as well.

You can call it final fitting/inletting or whatever you like. Mine took about 2 hours with a dremel tool before I could even get them to fit. So I guess you can call it minor. Without the dremel, I would have never got them to fit. Then lots and lots of sanding before the tru-oil. However, the end result is far nicer than a synthetic stock.

before anyone buys a choate ultimate sniper or choate ultimate varmint, HEFT the thing. they are heavy (choate and every retailer conveniently forgets to post the actual stock weight on their product pages). your rifle and scope would weigh over 15lbs with either the super varmint or super sniper.
