The two tactical stocks I'm looking at are the Choate non-adjustable 870 pistol grip stock, and the Davis speedfeed IV. I haven't tried either one but by looking at the pictures...I think Choate is a much better stock.

I think the Choate looks a little more rugged/sturdy and the pistol grip part that you hold with your trigger finger hand looks thicker and more solid. The Davis IV pistol grip looks very skinny (I've got big hands).

I'm sure their both very good, but I think Choate is better quality...the Davis speedfeed IV is more popular because of name recognition and contracts with Remington LE (870P), but I'm not buying a pair of running shoes here (Nike), I need the BEST tactical stock in the market, regardless of name recognition, price, or whatever......simply the best.

What do you guys think about these two manufacturers? Is there anything I'm missing?....Likes, dislikes, experiences, etc.

Thanks.

I prefer the davis speedfeed, but in the conventional style....

if I was to get a PG stock it too would be davis, I like the plain pistol grip and conventional styling of its buttstock, and the model with extra shell capacity is sweet (although they only take 2.75" shells).

the choate I find with the finger groves sucked, it didn't allow your hand to move which is a good thing but the finger grooves for me where uncomfortable.

Don't know if this helps but I've tried and fired both. The Choate fills the hand more and would be better suited to someone with larger hands. I have small hands and prefer the Speedfeed (you know what they say, small hands huge..... I'm not sure what is huge come to think of it!!!!). I also like the Speedfeed because it is very similar to the AR stock which I am also used to.. well, was used to until everyone went to the collapsible stock.

If you're a big guy then the Choate would suit you better. Many of my larger statured friends prefer the Choate for that reason.

As for the ammo storage in the stock... forget it, they fly out if you use heavy recoiling rounds. I never use mine and I use my 870 with Speedfeed stock for Tactical instruction and hunting.

I have shot my conventional stock davis speedfeed lots with 3" 1.25oz federal slugs and have yet to have the shells I have in the speedfeed coome out (keep 1oz 2.75" slugs in stock)

I have tried both stock and found them both lacking....out of the 2 I found the Davis appeared to be of a better construction......I still prefer the mesa tactical or argonaut armament AR stock adaptors the best way to go for myself...more expensive option though.

You must have stronger springs in yours. Mine always spit at least one shell out of either side. I've shot the 3" loads too but mine will due with regular 1 oz 2 3/4" slugs.:)

Maybe I got the Friday afternoon run...;) I've had my Davis since 1995 and I love it!

You are small! you little midget:D :D :D

What Tritium says about the Choate stock is true. I prefer the Choate and have installed mostly Choate's on the shotties I build.

As for the extra rounds that the Speedfeed carries, you would be better off with a SideSaddle.

Dude, you also are double Tritiums weight. Sometimes extra mass is a good thing as it provides a stable shooting platform, til I try and haul my fat ass downrange after our gravity challenged bretheren.

Big as i am, I'm also a wimp when it come to recoil. I just bought a Knoxx Compstock from TSE and the percieved recoil from my 14 inch with heavy loads is barely worth mentioning.

I tried out Repete's shotgun today with the Choate stock and I really liked it; I liked it enough to order one in for me. I liked the size of the pistol grip on it, and the way it anchored to my cheek.
