I was really considering the Choate mount for my SKS but then I came accross the Kalinka one. It seems pretty good and you can remove it without loosing zero. Anyone have any comments on the Kalinka stuff?

Well, I just received a new Kalinka mount but haven't put it together yet. The concept is good and construction is fair to good. The side plate system with the quick lock setup on the mount should work well. And with the side plate, when the scope is off, the rifle still looks normal. Repeatable zero seems like a possibility, but even with receiver cover mounts, I've had no real trouble with return to zero. Mind you if I was hunting with it,which I'm not, I'd like to check it.Their website is full of info including How-to manuals for installation and they are a good dealer to do business with. Don't know the other one

The Russains designed these mounts to return to zero...they are very tough.

Hey emmab how long did it take for you to get yours in the mail? :)

Thats the part I was looking at except I was looking at the weaver rail. same thing though. How much did it cost you after shipping and duty?

And they are designed for these rifles.

I'd only add a belt pouch for the scope, and mount so if I had to remove it in the field to go Iron sights I could still pack the scope, and mount safely.

Also if you get a scope from the same source it's built in range finder will be calibrated for the 7.62x39 bullet. :)

To me, they just have way too many parts and screws in them. However, I had one on my MN
and it does hold 7.62x54R, should be fine on SKS, too. If you didn't make your choice yet, I'd suggest to consider this one-piece:

I have one now on my MN and it feels much better now.

I like it but do they make one like that with a weaver rail? I want to mount a red dot on board.

I am not sure. It looks like it would mount over the center... one would have to order one to find out. The POSP 6x42 scope I used to have looked like it would be about 5-7mm off center when mounted on an SKS...

Hey guy, we have a Canadian dealer for this stuff: ww.eastwave.ca (hotlink removed/Stevo)
They are in Ottawa but the stuff come directly from Russia.

Neat'o thanx for the heads up on the Canadian dealer. :)
Depending on how bad they mark things up, I might go that route.
