Hey folks. Just wanting to get some input on some choices of rifles for my girlfriend. She is about 5'4 and a petite frame, rather dainty..
. So we have been starting to research youth and compact guns. So far she likes the Weatherby vanguard compact(I had and loved a submoa) as well she likes the Winchester m70 featherweight compact.
The question I have is as much about cartridge choice. I doubt she will get into dangerous game hunting but being in BC I guess that isn't out of the question. The plan is to build her a smallenough, light enough gun for her to handle, with as low recoil as possible, but enough range and oompf for Sheep, goat, elk, moose and deer.
My initial thoughts are a 308 in either of the above two rifles.
Any female hunters or small frame guys/youth have any comments on recoil and handling of a .308 bolt(I have never shot a 308 before) but the recoil charts show it less than a 270 and far less than what I shoot (45-70 and a 30-06)
a benelli R1 in 30-06 is also on the list as a possible as its lop and comb are adjustable and recoil is apparently very low.
I think if we can find a gun that shoot good out to 300 yards that will do her for a long time to come.
