Choice for a lady hunter in BC?

As for 7mm08 or 308 my only reason for 308 is well I guess I don't have one, but I do like the availability of 308 shells more than 7mm08. I did a quick look at a lot of 7m08 stuff is on backorder. 308 is just more common.

If you are buying factory ammo, a .308 makes lots of sense. With handloading it's go with whatever you want and whatever tickles your fancy. Most of the debates about similar cartridges (in this case 7-08 vs .308) are pretty pointless to the modern handloader.

A 140gr TSX bullet from a 7-08 will penetrate just as far as 30-06 using 180-200gr ol' fashioned cup and core bullets, and nobody should argue that the 30-06 with the heavier bullets isn't up to the task of killing a moose! :) Shot from the same rifle, the .308 caliber 130gr TTSX will penetrate as much and leave as big a wound channel as the 180gr Nosler partition. Again, it's hard to argue a 180gr NP isn't a good moose bullet.

7-08/.308, 280/30-06 etc etc....could argue all day about which cartridge is better but same constructed bullet of similar weight, put in the same place = same results.

I'd go with a Ruger American compact in 7-08 or .308, flip a coin. ;)

Mind you if you can find a Benelli R1 Argo in .308 scoop it up.
Fantastic rifles IMHO, I used to have one in 300 win mag...I really miss that rifle.

Browning Xbolt hunter, Micro or Micro Midas in 308.
I have one and the recoil is very manageable. It's light, balances well and the stock design / recoil pad seem to absorb recoil very well compared to the Rem M7 I had in 7mm-08.

Worth a look anyways.

My gf uses my 300 meg with no problems and she is about the same height and about 110 lbs but I have a muzzle break on my 700

We'll my .02$. The cartridge debate is a moot point, 7/08 or 308....doesn't matter, they can all be made to work with proper bullet choices. What matters is that the gun fit her, especially if she's really slight. She needs to pick up and try lots of models, that Lady Hunter has to be a top choice, as does the Weatherby models with the Monte Carlo cheek piece, as I would think that style stock would fit a woman well. If she's a classic female build, with her long slender neck, most stocks on production guns are not gonna be comfortable......I'd hunt that Savage down myself.....does McMillan make a woman's stock?

little late to the party here and guessing you already bought the rifle, but if anybody else is looking....my gf really likes her savage lady hunter in 7mm-08, the stock really does fit better, all the same points as mentioned above

she could shoot all of my rifles with reasonable accuracy so we weren't overly worried about what to get her, but the ladies specific stock really does feel good to her...also her friend who is a new shooter, shot a 1 1/4" group on her first try, intitially concerned about recoil but no complaints after the shots

with the savage, if you don't like the plastic bottom metal, plastic trigger guard and ####ty plastic magazine, you can upgrade to the cast metal bottom piece, trigger guard and better magazine (found on the other models) for about $155 to your door...total weight is 10.8oz, didn't weigh the plastic junk

I contacted mcmillan a couple weeks ago, no womens specific stock, all they can do is shorter LOP
