I am planning on buying my 1st pistol soon. I don't know why, but the look of the 1911's has gotten ahold on me, and I don't think it'll disappear till I have one.
Am looking at several, and am just starting to read up on them, but so far a couple of them that I like the sound of are the Kimber Pro Carry II in .45 ACP, and the CZ79B.
I know the Kimber isn't exact entry level, but I think I want to skip that stage and jump straight in and get a good one.
Any thoughts from people who've owned or tried them?
I'll probably have around $1000 to spend, and there are a few I'm already looking at for decent prices, saw a decent price on an unfired Para ordnance in .45 ACP as well.

Thanks in advance,

Aaron

I've never owned a kimber, but I think you're on the right track. If you buy the best one you can afford chances are you'll have that gun for a long time and over time you will be thankful that you didn't cheap out. if you're in the kimber price range, I would personally recommend an STI but am guessing you will be very happy with either.

Other bit of advice is that the government model (5") is going to be easier to shoot fast and accurately than the commander or "Carry II" model. I have both and the government models see way more range time simply because I find them more fun.

Best of luck and don't rush into it, half the fun is looking. If you have friends or belong to a club try and find members with different types that you can try before you buy.

Apparently you shouldn't get a Glock, because you will accidentally mow down a bus full of nuns if you try to load a round in the chamber.

if your interested I have a 97b in the ee great shape good gun going a different direction now have a look

Man, it is tempting. But some ####### posted a pic of a Sig traditional match elite.. It's more, but probably at the edge of what my wife would kill me in my sleep for buying.. Damnit!!!

I should ask to clarify, the government you have, is it in 45 or 9mm?
Am going to have to go in person and handle some, I have thickish hands, but not long fingers - want to make sure what frame size to buy, from what little I've read so far, full sized frames can have double stacked mags, the smaller framed guns have single stacked mags, imagine for people with smaller hands?

I have no experience with anything other then my CZ Shadow. I decided I wasnt interested in spending $3-$600 on a low-mid range pistol, then rebuy a higher end pistol. I went straight to the shadow because I knew it would do what I wanted it to do.

If it helps and I love my cz.

Here's a few I've had over the years. I have small hands and actually prefer the slim grips on my single stacks. I've had 9mm, 38special, 38 super, .40, 10mm and 45acp in 1911/2011's. I currently shoot my 9mm in 3 gun and it is the easiest one to shoot fast.

Despite my small hands I'm quite comfortable using double stack 2011's. Here's my 9mm nighthawk and a 40 SVI.

;)Hey johnnymac....that infinity is sweeeeeeeet.....

Thanks, unfortunately I let that one go with plans to buy a new one. Well something else caught my eye, then something else after that and I haven't got around to buying another SVI after that although I still hope to at some point. Would probably pick up a double stack 9mm.
