Can a full choke be used with rifled slugs out of a smooth barrel or is it best to use Mod or IC choke??

I shoot a Mossberg 500 and want to use the smooth barrel this deer season.

If they're not sabot slugs but "rifled" slugs your fine with any choke.

Yes, you can shoot foster/rifled slugs out of a full choke safely. You might find accuracy suffers but you won’t damage your barrel, people have been shooting deer with fixed full choked barrels for decades. I have one 12g barrel that I get the best slug accuracy with the full choke installed, I’m shooting a harder cast slug than your standard foster slug with zero damage to the choke or barrel.

Manufacturers do not make slugs that will harm your barrel, regardless of the choke...

Thanks for the replies. Any choice is good then from a safety standpoint. I guess th real issue is which one for accuracy with the ammo used and distance likely shooting? Yes?

Yeah exactly, time to buy a couple brands and see what shoots the tightest groups at your intended hunting ranges.
