I hunt mostly grouse & woodcock in the uplands, but have also hunted pheasant (wild & pen birds) sharptails, huns, chukar, snipe, dove, and quail.
I use a 12 ga. SxS game gun almost exclusively for upland game, choked 005" & .015" (about SK & LM) with either 7/8 or 1 oz. loads of 7-1/2's or 8's. I find standard target loads to be adequate on almost everything, with the exception of pheasant & sharptails ... I then go to 6's with a "field" load of 1-1/8 oz.
For the most part, I think too many folk use a bit more choke and a heavier load than they actually need.
