Stoeger 2000 manual says to oil the screw in choke. I figure they mean a few drops on the threads. What can I use that's in my garage? I don't see a trip to Lebaron's in the near future.

Any suggestions?

I just use generic gun oil. I'm sure any light oil could work in a pinch. Wd-40 should do. Just keep in mind that if the oil you use gums up or turns to crud youll need a bit of muscle to get it out, and maybe a tool of some type (choke wrench).

So I take it you run all your guns dry with no lubrication. Just use whatever you got for gun oil on it. I just put a bit of CLP on mine and screwed it back in.

I'm sure any old oil would work. Gun lubrication isn't exactly rocket science.

Actually, anti-seize compound might be a good choice for this sort of thing.

there is a choke specific anti-seize compound, i've used oil/CLP in the past and now only use the choke specific stuff because of stuck chokes after a day of clays

I use either Lubriplate ( lithium based grease) or moly-Slip Molbdimum disulphide based grease) on my chokes.
Many gun manufacturers say to use oil, but oil will migrate where grease will not.
it's all very technical stuff (and when I hear engineers talking about that stuff I cringe), so I try to keep it simple - grease!:D

X2 Grease works best, Use it on your hinge pins and trunions too.

I use Shooters Choice Choke Tube Lube.

Basically its an anti-sieze compund but it is red so you know where ya put it.

I used to use regualr gun oil, but after having a stubborn choke tube after a day of skeet, I went looking for something else. No problems ever since.

Cheers!
