Choke set for 870

One tube - improved cylinder will perform well with steel shot out to 40 yards... and very well with lead shot out to 30 yards. You can add tighter tubes for lead shot for longer distances but the one tube is all you need for steel.

I bought these chokes from Brownell's.

Nothing as yet but I want the option to hunt game birds, pheasant, duck etc and have some stored away.

I need to read up on chokes lol

Steel shot requires very little choke constriction to shoot excellent patterns. Too tight a choke constriction can distort the pattern and possibly damage the tube and threads. I have altered hundreds of fixed choke guns to safely shoot steel shot. The vast majority of those have been altered to skeet or improved cylinder chokes. Many customers have been repeat customers and are happy. Altering the forcing cone to a longer taper than the factory is also a good thing to do. It can reduce recoil slightly and improve the pattern.

The nice thing about improved cylinder is it is a very useful choke for lead shot as well. So if you got the normal assortment of improved cylinder, modified and full choke tubes you pretty well cover the range. That's what guys have been doing ever since choke tubes came out...

I’ve got a mix of Factory Remington And Carlson chokes for my 870’s, they are easy to find and are not crazy expensive. As guntech said, an improved cylinder, mod, full, should cover you for most hunting applications. I have a X-full but can’t say I’ve ever used it, mod is my usual go to for upland hunting around here.
